Caesareans on the Rise. Chosen or Cajoled? #CAM2016

Mother’s Day is approaching, and besides thoughts of The Trio, BB recalls the actual day she became a Madre for the first time.  Birthing is no peace of bizcocho. It was a dia of surreal moments and surprises, but in the end worth every twist of events. It is a personal experience, y ultimately the choice is yours, pero BB just wants you to think about certain things, specifically the birth, before that day you become a mother, or before you give birth again.

Originally the C-Section, or Cesarean, was performed to save babies whose mothers died during childbirth.  Obviously, that is not the only reason the operation is chosen in today’s society. The reasons range from medical need, to cultural preference, and many beliefs in between. According to Consumer Reports, 1 in 3 births are cesareans, and almost half could have been done naturally.

“Alarmed by that trend, the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM)—the nation’s two leading medical organizations that focus on childbirth—issued recommendations in 2014 aimed at safely reining in unnecessary cesareans.

“No one is saying that C-sections are never necessary, and no woman should feel guilty or somehow bad if they end up needing one,” says Elliott Main, M.D., the medical director of the California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative, a nonprofit organization that works to improve outcomes for mothers and babies in that state. “But mothers shouldn’t be coerced, directly or indirectly, into having a cesarean either, and making C-section rates public can give women the information they need when choosing where to deliver their babies,” he says.”

Thankfully, even though my ob/gyn scared Babushka by saying “It’s gonna be a big one!”, when asked if a Cesarean should be performed he said, “No mija, alli cabe un camion.” ( No dear, you can fit a truck in there.)  Loved my doctor, Crazy Cubano with a heart of gold, whose jokes weren’t always funny, but his demeanor was always darling.  My first born was almost a 12 pounder, and BB was sure Dr. Tudela was there for all three births.

The above is a picture taken 20 years ago. Here is The Trio and Godson enjoying a campsite they had set up. Quee?? BB set up the camping gear? JU SO FONII!!! By this age each of the niños had a specific task to build the site, all Babushka had to do was drive them there.  Hopefully we’ll be able to do the same with The Grands, and now that there are 6 , Sweetie will be helping BB introduce them to the bella world of camping.
Naturalmente, we'll be taking it easy and going the glamping route first. Bueno, ok, maybe not too glamorous, but it will be in our backyard where we can always run into la casa if it gets too real for them. Pero if Grandpa y Babushka plan it right, it'll be magical instead.

First, some strategically placed items for them to discover and enjoy.

Morning campanitas; chimes to wake up to. Fairies and gnomes to play with,
gardens to plant, windmills to watch happily and lights throughout that will glow in the night.  

"All well and good" said Sweetie, 

"but if they are sleeping on hard ground they'll be too tired to enjoy any of it."

Definitivamente had a point there didn't he?  Our yard had cute items, pero it could use some filling up in the grass departamento. So,off to Walmart BB went,to make sure our grass was always greener.

While there, Babushka saw some other items that would just enhance the fun y magic a bit more...

Lawn Bowling, Bubbles, Pools and a Slide!

Y estos??  You can never have too many forest friends in BB's opinion.

Did y'all see those mushroom stools?  Cutisimos verdad???

Pero, as Sweetie had said, you can't appreciate much if you're not rested, 

so home BB went with the needed lawn fixerupper.

La Potencia que es Hispanicize is upon us once again, and thanks to the S Sisters Babushka will be attending once again. Didn't think BB was going to go this year, but fairy Godmothers/fathers DO exist. Gracias to Miriam, Manny, Heather y Maria, this will be the fifth time Blessed. Why does Babushka call this a blessing?  JU SO FONII !!! Hispanicize is THE event to attend if you are in the hispanic social media, or want to be.

#Hispz16 is the iconic, largest annual event for Latino trendsetters and newsmakers in digital content creation, journalism, marketing, entertainment and tech entrepreneurship. The event will take place in downtown Miami’s InterContinental hotel, April 4-8, 2016. The Hispanicize event is a launch pad for creative endeavors, new products, technologies, marketing campaigns, films, books and more targeting Latinos in the U.S. and/or Puerto Rico.

Vieron why BB calls it La Potencia? Laurita was born with Spina Bifida and is now the Maravillosa Ms. we all love, but it hasn't been, and isn't without its' trials and frustrations. 

“Many organizations that cater to the spina bifida community are almost exclusively focusing on preventing spina bifida, and are founded and run by parents and health professionals,” Tellado said. “The Laurita Spina Bifida Project seeks to educate the community about the issues affecting those of us currently living with spina bifida. We are the first organization of our kind— conceptualized and founded by an individual  who is living with Spina Bifida." 

And that is the heart of Hispanicize Beautifuls, helping each other.  Pero there's also the soul of our hispanidad- La Musica.  It's another track and major plus of going to HIspanicize.
