My husband,Sweetie, is pre-diabetic so he watches his diet very carefully. That can be a little tricky to do, especially since he's the type who loves to spend hours outdoors. In the Florida calor, spending hours outside is  sooo not Babushka, so he’s sent off alone with meals and snacks.  The lunches BB packs for him have to be filling, satisfying, and taste good, because he’s already slim and Babushka’s got a reputation to uphold.

BB drives over to our local Walmart and buys what are sure things in both the taste and health requirements. We've been reading up on diabetes and the changes one needs to do, but at the same time we also know that if it doesn't have that zing, then it's a zero. Ahora eso si, there are rules for packing a good lunch and a couple of trucos Babushka has learned along el camino.

1. Know what they like and give it to them. While they're out and about is not a time to experiment.

2. Make sure it'll keep for hours.  If it needs to be cool,  have some frozen bottle waters and/or icepacks ready. BB's preference are the water bottles, they can always drink the melted agua.

3. If it can get squashed,mushed, crushed, put it in a bag by itself- 'cause who needs that extra yuck ?

In Sweetie's case, he prefers to eat things he can eat with one hand;the other is for his fishing rod. He's always ready for that fish's nibble, so he does his nibbling quickly.  Focused in his fun, Sweetie will spend hours pescando, and Babushka's so glad to have found something that'll keep him fuller longer and keep his energy steady.
