Es Diciembre, it’s December. Wow and Woah. Everytime when this month comes it seems to have arrived so quickly, and at the same time the realization of another year passed hits us.  Another year, another memento, yet this one is not quite like most.  It is indeed a time for reflection and hopefully realization.

For her part, Babushka’s life after Covid has had its awakenings and advantages.  First of all, it hit home how precious la vida is. Precious and precarious life is. While in the deadly fog, BB prayed for another day, another chance to see loved ones. Thankfully she did. Also en vivo, full force, was the promise to self to not hold back, to go full gusto for things wanted. Ahora, when BB says “things”, she doesn’t mean material (although a real concrete house, not a falling apart trailer would be nice), she means aspirations and inner desires.There are people and places to visit, time to share the passions and knowings in the soul.  So back to ridesharing, raising dinero and los espiritos of passengers. Si, each day at 6 am it’s off to a new adventure, each ride a chance to share a smile, a laugh, or just good vibes. Everyone needs algo diferente. For some, the candy offered helps. Quee? BB not offer her riders some grandmotherly love?? JU SO FONII!! It’s a token of life’s sweetness y dulzura, a simbolo of noticing them, a moment of surprise pleasure, simple but smile producing. Sometimes an encouraging word, a reminder that waking up each morning is a blessing of itself is what’s needed. What do you need Beautifuls?

59 and feeling fine! Telling BB’s Angels, it’s not quite her time… Si, another Cumples, and Babushka couldn’t be más feliz. Matter of fact, healthwise, besides the COVID chacha, this is the best shape BB’s been in hace tiempo.  Gracias to Dancing with Diabetes, la dieta is healthier and life, not my food, is sweeter.  Oh si, a wonderful ejemplo how saying Life- JU SO FONII helps you rethink “negatives”. Being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes made la vida more precious and priorities rechoreographed.  Not that Babushka would want any of you to get this preventable disease, pero to stress a point.  “A lo malo, buena cara.”  Wake up points come at any time, many times in our vidas. Age doesn’t stop this , es más, BB would say it becomes more evident the older we get.

We get so many prods, that turn into pushes, that are precious possibilities if we allow them to be.  How many have you gotten Beautifuls? How many have you ignored? That small voice beckoning betterment isn’t yours, lamentablemente the doubt is. The more you follow your corazon’s calling, the more you appreciate la vida, porque the heart knows. And deep down, so do you.

If you speak to people “getting on in years” you’ll find some common threads. There are regrets for things they coulda/shoulda done, chances missed for not following that inner voice. And there are those who have come to the conclusion that life is not for  regrets and are going after that voice, embracing it at any cost. These are the ones that know life is for living, loving life and all it’s posibilidades. Ganando con Las Ganas. This is how BB plans to live the rest of her years. Here’s hoping they’ll be many more, pero si no, she knows the daily dance will be with every cell of her soul. To quote the great musical, The King and I, “Shall we dance?”

 Diciembre. 2020. Wow and Woah. Like every year, lleno de ups and downs. Like every year, things lost and learned. Like every year, we agonize the dragout of days, pero al final we think how quickly it all went. 2020. Like every year, pero no.

Ahora, in case you’re pensando 2020 has been all bad, let Babushka remind you of how it made us ALL STOP. The tiqui tiqui of our daily vidas was affecting us and our planeta. Nature started to thrive de nuevo, and hopefully so did you and your familia. Slowing down, taking stock of los whats and whys of our lives, el verdadero valor de the whos of our time, all this thanks to 2020. The heightened sense de gratitud for basics, finding alegria in simple tasks, this in 2020. The realization how we truly are entwined with each other, the social goods being done, and those needing to get done. All this Gracias to 2020. 

Y ahora, en Diciembre of 2020, what are the real presents attained? As you gather your gifts and family for the holidays, make sure to say Gracias for todo. Gratitude for la vida, and the fulfillment of the year, to make us stronger in life lessons and gentler in dealing with ourselves and each other.
