Gracias Tio Sam. #Repost A Sentiment worth repeating.

If you've been following Babushka you know I'm all about the positive, wonderful things in life. So if you think this is a political statement JU SO FONII!!! Ok, si, maybe a little, but mainly it's about gratitude. Gratitude to a country that welcomed and still welcomes my people from Cuba.
Mil Gracias to you mi querido USA,
 for as a first generation Cuban American I can never say it enough.

 BB knows what her fate would have been if you hadn't welcomed her family.

July is for Independence, and We’re Half Way There- #TBT @ConexionFlorida July 2021

July is for Independence, and We’re Half Way There” is the title of this writing. Of course you know Babushka’s a lover of Twofers, so this escrito has many meanings, many subtopics, many ways to look at it. Just like La Vida verdad? Empesamos in the beginning.


Those of us living in the US like to celebrate the 4th of July, the country’s independence day. The day the colonists declared their independence from England.  It was a battle hard fought, many loses, but in the end it was won. From there came much learning, mucho growing, but the nation became stronger and in time became a poder to be reckoned with. In comparison with other nations, the United States of America is young, in its mere 245 years has seen much, done much. But there is so much yet to do and be.

They say a country is a reflection of its people- or are the people a reflection of the country? Reflection. In the title we state “July is for Independence, and We’re Half Way There”, Half Way There because the year is half done, as is the mission of independence and freedom our forefathers spoke of and promised. How many promises have we made Beautifuls? With the best of intentions, what resolutions are still valid and intact at this midpoint? July, a good month to relive our history, with open hearts and ojos abiertos. Time for our truth and to begin again. Nuestro pais, our peace, National civility, personally being civil. To live by the words ,”For All”. As promised to us, as we hold to be self evident. Let us live the vision that made this country, and hope in turn the country will become that vision. There is much yet to do and be.




May the reflection we see and live be one we can All live with.

#FBF Take it Suave Tio Sam. #4thofjuly 2020

 BB’s #FBF is powerful and memorable, full of lessons and things we’d like to forget,  just like the year it was written. Hopeful y’all like this heartfelt post.

This year Babushka has likened Mother’s Day to Mother Earth and Father’s Day to Father Time, so naturally for July 4th, who better than Tio Sam? That dear, querido uncle with his little off center jokes, but always with smiles and a quick dulcesito. This is how we remembered him from our childhood, but with adulthood a more comprehensive composition was found.



2020 , this has not been the best of years for our nation. BB is not thinking of the Corona Covid19 pandemic when she writes that. Like all familias, there are differences and squabbles in the Estados Unidos de Norte America, racism being one that we all probably face each day. This one is deep rooted and multileveled, either subtle or straight out to our caras,  for we as Hispanos are also singled out many times, but in the end we MUST realize and remember that we are part of the same family. This is our home, our casa. We are ALL Americans. And though Babushka isn’t fond of the current nonpeace and hostilities, she is fond of the principles this country was based on. Grateful for the sentiments and written rules that give us the bases to ask for and even demand our rights.



The 13th, 14th and 15th amendments to the US Constitution, also known as the Reconstruction Amendments, came despues del Civil War Americano. They are as follows-


AMENDMENT XIII - Passed by Congress on 31 January 1865; Ratified 6 December 1865  

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. 


AMENDMENT XIV -Passed by Congress 13 June 1866; Ratified 9 July 1868 

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws… 


AMENDMENT XV -Passed by Congress 26 February 1869; Ratified 3 February 1870 

The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color or previous condition of servitude…


A little lengthier and detailed than most of BB’s posts, but this is out of Amor that Babushka shares. She shares the knowledge and truth of our rights, just as she believes in the knowledge and truth of America. Her belief and knowing that we are all familia living here and that un dia Tio Sam will also believe and know this, con soul and corazon.
