#FBF Take it Suave Tio Sam. #4thofjuly 2020

 BB’s #FBF is powerful and memorable, full of lessons and things we’d like to forget,  just like the year it was written. Hopeful y’all like this heartfelt post.

This year Babushka has likened Mother’s Day to Mother Earth and Father’s Day to Father Time, so naturally for July 4th, who better than Tio Sam? That dear, querido uncle with his little off center jokes, but always with smiles and a quick dulcesito. This is how we remembered him from our childhood, but with adulthood a more comprehensive composition was found.



2020 , this has not been the best of years for our nation. BB is not thinking of the Corona Covid19 pandemic when she writes that. Like all familias, there are differences and squabbles in the Estados Unidos de Norte America, racism being one that we all probably face each day. This one is deep rooted and multileveled, either subtle or straight out to our caras,  for we as Hispanos are also singled out many times, but in the end we MUST realize and remember that we are part of the same family. This is our home, our casa. We are ALL Americans. And though Babushka isn’t fond of the current nonpeace and hostilities, she is fond of the principles this country was based on. Grateful for the sentiments and written rules that give us the bases to ask for and even demand our rights.



The 13th, 14th and 15th amendments to the US Constitution, also known as the Reconstruction Amendments, came despues del Civil War Americano. They are as follows-


AMENDMENT XIII - Passed by Congress on 31 January 1865; Ratified 6 December 1865  

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. 


AMENDMENT XIV -Passed by Congress 13 June 1866; Ratified 9 July 1868 

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws… 


AMENDMENT XV -Passed by Congress 26 February 1869; Ratified 3 February 1870 

The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color or previous condition of servitude…


A little lengthier and detailed than most of BB’s posts, but this is out of Amor that Babushka shares. She shares the knowledge and truth of our rights, just as she believes in the knowledge and truth of America. Her belief and knowing that we are all familia living here and that un dia Tio Sam will also believe and know this, con soul and corazon.

Women's History is Everyone's History - @ConexionFlorida March 2021 Edition

 The following is from BB’s column in the March edition of Conexion, the  trilingual newspaper in North Florida,parts of Alabama and Georgia. This month we honor women and their sobresaliente contributions to our historia.

“Women's History Month is an annual declared month that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. Wikipedia” Seems silly that we should need a specific month to highlight women, their accomplishments and worth. Then again, it’s silly that their accomplishments and worth aren’t shared everyday, that we should even have to highlight them when it should be common knowledge and accepted by all that women have the capacity, ingenuity, resilience and strength of character to be exceptional. 



But we aren’t quite in that universal mind yet are we Beautifuls? So let us applaud the tenacity of women who didn’t live in (self) mental confines. Women like Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, the first feminine writer of the New World. A 17th Century writer and thinker who argued for a woman’s right to education, all while being a monja. In La Mujer Moderna,(1915) women’s rights were also argued by Hermila Galindo, founder,editor and writer. Galindo wrote in support of many radical feminist issues, primarily sex education in schools, women's suffrage, and divorce. Issues still talked about now, pero back in the early 1900’s they were especially controversial. Born in 1878, it wasn’t until 1969 that sociologist, modernist educator, journalist and feminist writer, María Jesús Alvarado Rivera was noted by the National Council of Women of Peru as the "first modern champion of women's rights in Peru".  So you see, our history de Latinas fuerte and capable is long, and this is just a brief example. Heroines/Heroes to many, but did they think of themselves that way?


Heroes are those that are extraordinary because they did something that to them, just had to be done. They didn’t see the accolades, but the necessity, the call to get something accomplished, to follow through with their beliefs, their corazones. And this Beautifuls, describes so many in our lives. Mothers, teachers, retail clerks, medical professionals, tu. Si, YOU. The daily schedule, the getting out of bed, tending to others, being part of life, this is the stuff of heroes. Appreciate this in todos in your vida, appreciate this in yourself. 


Women’s History is how we live, how we raise our children, how we treat others. Women’s History is how we want to be treated, how we want the futuro to see us, how we will be remembered. Todos somos partes de esta historia. We can look to the past, look at current idols for inspiration, but remember and believe. For our betterment or detriment, WE ALL make up Women’s History. Be mindful of your legacy.

Loving @BrooklynCloth , Their Passion & Their PRIDE

 BB answered an email titled- LGBT PITCH: PRIDE collection by Brooklyn Cloth, and is so glad she did!  As is customary, BB received clothing samples to faciliatate the post, pero what is not customary was the calidad, definitely sobre lo usual.  Lo bueno es Bueno, but the quality of clothing, and the message behind them were so espectacular que Babushka and BB’s Little One had to take a ride down to St. Petersburg for the perfect backdrop for these perfect piezas.

Honestly, seeing her so feliz and comfortable in the clothing filled this Babyboomer with hope y nostalgia. Si, Pride in every sense of the palabra.

Proud of #PrideMonth y @TallyPride

Ya estamos en Junio, half a year already. BB running on Cubantime on her posts, but this is a cause and occasion too dear to let go by sin a mention and a hug.  Este mes is Pride Month, and if you think Babushka is pasandolo without a post, JU SO FONII!!! Este post is dedicated to all the LGBT amigos del pasado, presente y futuro and a todos who love them.

The Tallahassee PrideFest took place in April, bold y bello, just like the Beautifuls who organized and participated in it.  Naturalmente BB was too busy enjoying the festival to take many fotos, pero aqui are some of the highlights.

Feliz that the importance of self care, health in all aspects, was stressed. Kudos to local organizations and government for having booths, especially in a community with so many young adults. Only thing missing was the info in Spanish. Hopefully BB's suggestion on this will be implemented.

To continue in this vein, let BB add the religious/spiritual tambien.  Having attended services where homosexuality was criticized, it brought relief and tears to the ojos to see churches believe and broadcast universal love.
