Women's History Month is Part of Us All. #TBT Conexion Florida March 2022

Written for the 2022 March edition of Conexion, BB confesses that she hadn't known about these ladies until it was time to write the column. Totally enjoyed doing the research and learning about them, Babushka hopes you do too.

HolaHolaHola Beautifuls!

In March we celebrate Women’s History Month. Por supuesto BB has to write a twofer and write an article about the contributions of Latina Women in the US. There have been many and in many varied areas. Following are but a few, both in history as well as current times.

In the early 1900’s, Mexican American Jovita Idar made her stand for woman’s suffrage, writing in her family’s newspaper, El Progreso, about the need to give women the right to vote. Her conviction wasn’t only via the written word, for when the Texas Rangers came to close down the newspaper because of an article she had written against government treatment of Mexican American’s on the border, she physically stood in front of the door and did not let them pass.

In sports, 11 latinas played for the AAGPBL. The All American Girls Professional Baseball League was founded in 1943 and setting records for RBIs was Margaret “Marge” Villa. She started semiprofessionally at age 13 and was signed with the Kenosha Komets in 1946, playing over 500 games with them as a record breaking catcher.

1961 saw the founding of LatinX education programs, ASPIRA by Dr.Antonia Pantoja. A passion project, because she saw the racism, abusive conditions and racial inequities faced by laborers, and became a community organizer working to shed light and change, knowing education is a leveling factor.

These are just three of the countless latinas we should honor in  this month dedicated to women’s history. Truthfully though Beautifuls, aren’t we all part of women’s history? Somos hecho y parte of our family/mother’s historia. Y esto being true, we must be made conscious of our importancia, not for ourselves, but to those around us and those that will follow us.  Don’t downplay your part, for you too are part of history. Be conscious of your link in the making of mañana. Do from the heart and follow what you know is right.

BB Blabs 'Bout 'Buela - Show 3 @Catherinebookwr Catherine R. Cameron

Grandmothers Grandparents Gloat @Catherinebookwr @BBabushka

HolaHolaHola Beautifuls!!!

Show 3 and good thing it was with a good friend! OMAAIIGGAA- Talk about Cubantime!  Creo que we spent more time trying to get online than what we spent on camera. Pero it was fun y lo pasamos bien.

Catherine R. Cameron lives in the same town of Crawfordville as BB and is of Latina heritage, pero this is where the similarity stops. ESTA MUJER NO PARA!!! The Energizer Bunny? He takes vitaminas just to keep up with her. Ok Si, Babushka hears you- "JU SO FONII!!!" but this is no cubaneo here.  Comenzamos,
And that's just her public persona Beautifuls.  In her vida privada she's an abuela to 18.  18!!!

If you watch the video you'll see Catherine's not one for long stories, she's definitely living life and showing others how it's done.  Crawfordville may be a little town, but there's nothing little in all she does and in what she believes in.  Es mas, she was a bit disheartened when she saw how job seekers would show up for interviews and the mess their resumes were, so she decided to help with a very thorough How-To for those seeking employment in offices.  Professional?  Just look at the video for it.

Having been in that arena herself, Babushka agrees with everything she wrote.

Are you looking for an administrative job? Professional guide for employment, career change, job

If you or someone you know could use it, BB highly recommends it.

Ahora, our short interview because honestly, flustered friends are mejor over café than computers.

Consider this our dress rehearsal.
We will do this one over... if BB can ever get Catherine to sit down again...

P.S.  If you ever wonder if being an abuelo means slowing and staying still, just bookmark this post pa'quitarte that idea!!

Comfort Food con Caché Y Completo @CasaMofongoMia #CoralGables #PuertoRicanFood

BB was invited  to conocer Casa Mofongo Latin Grill in Coral Gables. A post was not mandated, but after the evenings trato Babushka couldn't help but comment and share. This is 100% Babushka, but I'm sure the others opinions are not far from mine.

HolaHolaHola My Beautifuls!!!

Now you may think Comfort Food & Caché shouldn't go in the same sentence, but Casa Mofongo Latin Grill is just that. While driving me home (thanks again mujer), bloguera friend Farah Mesa was commenting on the nice way they took traditional Puerto Rican foods and made them upscale, while still maintaining the basic taste and essence of the original. But Babushka's pulling a BB and starting at the end, let's start from el comienzo shall we?

Babushka was invited to a dinner by @WebCityGirls +Lynn Ponder  and @LacocinadeVero
+Veronica Cervera , y being no dummy said Si! of course. Quee? BB pass up free food???  JU SO FONII!!! Besides that, Lynn is Puerto Rican and Vero a food blogger, so Babushka knew the odds of it being an excellent dinner were very good.

Believe it or not, Babushka was one of the first to arrive, y eso que I was traveling via bus! Miracle Mile, always stylish, was decked out in Holiday Splendor and was even more llamativo, lively, and bella than usual. Arriving at Casa Mofongo, delighted by the decor and service. Oh si, SERVICIO.

The First thing (besides the Bievenido and smile) they set up is a purse holder for you.

Beautifuls, BB doesn't get surprised too often,
but that was definitivamente an unexpected and much appreciated detalle.

The Second thing was a KILLER tropical Sangria.

Babushka couldn't decide between the Mango Sangria O el de Kiwi.
In the end, Kiwi was kickin' !!

And then the 7 course meal.

They took the typical and made it tantalizing.
Mainstream Puerto Rican foods made magical with special combinations, sauces and a touch of the sublime. Perfecto to make it "cuisine" without losing its humble beginnings.

A closeup of the menu we enjoyed. Closeups of the food- you'll want those in person.

@Ponderful, @MariasGoodTaste , @LaCocinadeVero , BB, @FarahMesa

we were later joined by @LauraTermini , @Enrilemoine , @Emy_Cooks
who were pictured in the first collage

So was the dinner excellent?? Oh si and Oh Yeah!!!

A hidden gem on Miracle Mile, BB hopes that after this post it's discovered by many.
Y para ayudar en eso, and to help that along, here's a dinner for 2 giveaway.
Oh Si They Did!!

Go to Babushka's Feibu Page, and under "Giveaway" is the contest.

Enjoy yourselves Beautifuls, but make sure you had a light lunch.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day -but it's a Good Day to meet Miguel Arteta

From film screening to meeting w/director Miguel Arteta, for BB it was a very good 2 days.
Gracias Bloggin' Mamas & Moroch Entertainment for the experience.
Story, como siempre, purely Babushka.

HolaHolaHola My Beautifuls!

We've all had them, "bad days", but some people seem like magnets for them.  Of course BB believes all days have good in them, just by the mere fact that we woke up and are breathing, but most people, especially children, don't have that view.  To be sure, Alexander, an 11 yr old boy didn't have this view- at least not in the beginning.   And that's the premise of the film,   ALEXANDER AND THE TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD DAY .

To Alexander, the eve of his birthday is his worst day EVER while the rest of his familia are having their BEST day ever. Naturalmente this doesn't seem fair, so that night at medianoche en punto he wishes the rest of his family could understand what a terrible, horrible,no good, very bad day feels like. Y'all know the saying, "Be careful what you wish for." ?  Well Alexander definitely learned it first hand as he watched total locura and mayhem hit the other members of his family.  Aqui tienen a trailer on some of the films highlights.

Now y'all know BB lives extremes, but even Babushka would make an appointment for a despojo after a day like that!  Quee??  Ok Si, JU SO FONII!!! Soy Cubana and at the end of the day I'd probably be dancing and singing "Todo el mundo, con la lengua afuera"  which isn't too far from the actual finale of the film.  But BB doesn't want to give too much away, so let's go from the film screening to the film making.

One of the things that struck me of #VeryBadDay was how totally believable most of the situations were. You could actually see some of the things happening to you.  This of course takes a good script, good acting, and good directing.  On this nota, enter Miguel Arteta.

BB was invited to interview the director of  #VeryBadDay, Miguel Arteta and must admit es un encanto.  The marvelous Mandarin Oriental was the setting, which was perfect in its Zen vibes for this man. He's so unassuming, likeable, buena gente, that if he would have fit into Babushka's Popa bag I would have taken him home. Imaginate, he doesn't have children of his own, but totally relates to family life from his childhood in Puerto Rico, and he says having stars like Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner who actually are parents made it very natural, and with true to parenting reactions to some of the films moments.  Some anecdotes shared- the baby boy Trevor was actually played by twin girls Elise and Zoey Vargas and the "loving all things Australian" Alexander, was played by Australian actor Ed Oxenbould who had to acquire an American accent.  Arteta shared how Ed quickly picked up the new accent, but on the day he got to say "G'day Mates" he relished using his true home speech.  Miguel jokes about the adage" Never work with kids and animals" and how he did both in this film.  Si, he did, and it worked out BUENISIMO!

Now that Babushka's seen the film I can't wait to read the book.
Quee??  Have to do something until it comes out in video!!

A Pre-Valentine's Get together - with AMBAR

HolaHolaHola My Beautifuls!!

Dedicated to +ambarmusical .

This post was originally part of my Miami recap,
but the woman it talks about deserves the same trato that she gives-
detailed attention, sincerely and with heart.

SAVE THE DATE

PRE-VALENTINE'S GET TOGETHER

When:  Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 6pm

Where:  1050 Brickell Avenue

12th Floor, Wine Room

RSVP:

At almost 3 years in the blogging gig, I've been to a few events and press junkets, but I must say nada and none had the special touch of this one.  A small group of bloggers for an intimate gathering and personal attention. It truly did feel like a group of friends just hanging out, enjoying the good things in life and each other.

By the end of the evening BB could tell this was a true representation of our hostess Ambar.

For those who don't know who she is, she is a multitalented singer who put her career on hold while she raised her child. This kind of dedication to the "realness" of life eminates in her.  In her toast she stressed that Valentine's Day wasn't only about romantic love, that there were so many other types just as, if not more important.

She dedicated the evening to family, friends and self love.

Ambar instructed us to follow our dreams and our hearts- and this is one lady who did and does just that.  After leaving "show business" to care for her son, shes returned como si nada- without skipping a beat. But she's definitely has lots of people dancing to one!! Her new CD is BUENISIMO!!  Honestly, Babushka isn't much of a follower of the newer musica, but I definitely can bailar to this one. See if you don't agree with BB.

Who say's you can't go back again??  Not only is she back, but she's focused and with fervor. She  has her cd and also shows her love of fashion by bringing us her own line of designer watches.  Although they were debuting in March, she was the perfect hostess and gave her guests autographed, numbered timepieces before the official launch.

With all her wonderful qualities, vision, and genuine generosity,
todas fell in love with this Bella Boricua.

Please join Babushka as she follows Ambar on-

Tweety-   @AmbarMusical

And let's all vote for her en los Premios Juventud- vote by 3/30 !!

And now, another of her songs y-

♪ A BAILAR SE HA DICHO!♪
