PalaverTreeTheater_TheaterWithAMission_BohemianBabushka

HolaHolaHola Beautifuls!

Aqui esta BB,writing this post while working the box office during Palaver Tree Theater's Premier Season. They are performing Topdog/Underdog to a full house. FULL HOUSE.
To that, Babushka can only say- ESO!!!

If you weren't aware, Babushka is into teatro. Quee?? Obvious because of BB's over the top personality? JU SO FONII!!That's being Cuban, not theatrical.

The reason this post is called Extreme Entertainment is the range, the different types of offerings between these two troupes.  Palaver Tree Theater is a true community theater, using its voz to share the history of Wakulla/Crawfordville and select dramatic offerings to open the conocimientos, mindsets of our bella part of the mundo.

The MISSION STATEMENT:

Palaver Tree Theater Company is dedicated to the strong belief that theatre is an instrument of communal transformation. Our founding principles are to be inclusive, accessible, educational, and a relevant source to all – regardless of cultural or economic backgrounds – by providing opportunities to witness forms of artistry that validate and reflect the human experience.

And ahora, BB's Beloved TWAM- Theater With A Mission

We are Theater with a Mission, a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation made up of actors, scholars, and cultural explorers based in Tallahassee, Florida. We’re united by one quest: to rediscover history by reviving plays from el Siglo de Oro, the Spanish Golden Age.

Our Mission
Theater with a Mission (TWAM) creates and performs plays that explore milestones in Florida’s history.  Presented in English spiced with historic Spanish, in period costume with authentic songs and dances, our original scripts and new translations carry audiences across barriers of language, time, and space, into face-to-face encounters with Florida’s Spanish roots and history’s great ideas.

BB has been part of TWAM for many years, now part of the Social Media Team as well as acting. Aver si no ven a Babushka in this promo filmstrip for the Loco For Love Festival, Sept. 13-16.

Babushka loves those two worlds/troupes, pero saben what she loves mas?
When the dos meet in the middle; it's magia.

Crawfordville Cares- Operation Santa 2016

HolaHolaHola Beautifuls!!

They say Charity begins at home, and if there’s a town that embodies that, it’s Babushka’s home town of Crawfordville .  It’s wonderful living in a place where people come together to help others, usually total strangers. The sense of community is strong here and BB hopes to share some of the amor, starting with the unbelievable Operation Santa.

“Operation Santa is a community effort sponsored by the Wakulla County Coalition for Youth (WCCY) who with its partners build support for the youth, individuals and families in Wakulla County. In the past six years, Operation Santa has helped thousands in need of a hands-up to experience the joy of the Christmas Season. 2016 is the seventh year of Operation Santa of Wakulla helping Wakulla residents in need of a hand-up. There is no qualifying; we expect only those that truly need help, to experience a joyful Christmas, will apply.

This effort could not be done without the help of volunteers, businesses, the adoption of families, donations of new and like-new items and cash donations.”

BB not donate? JU SO FONII!!! Babushka likes to give Thanks that The Grands and The Trio have always received gifts during the holidays and that we have always been blessed with shelter and comida, so for every child/grandchild we give at least the same amount back. That was 9 regalitos for Operation Santa, and this year we went straight to Santa’s Workshop.
Operation Santa Wakulla Florida charity
At 6'4" Sweetie is enjoying being Santa's biggest elf.

Este año  there were 181 familias that signed up for holiday assistance. 81 of them were “adopted” by individuals, leaving 100 for Operation Santa to provide for. And that they definitely did. With help from the community, with toy drops around town, online monetary donations, 100 families will be having a better holiday. Pero it’s not only the families receiving the presents that are having a better holiday. Did you notice the volunteers (they call themselves elves) arriba? They came in different shifts, were from all demographics and ages, and the spirit of giving filled them all. Gracias to the “elves” for being part of Babushka’s home town. They fill the air with love and goodwill, raising the vibes all around, making Crawfordville a place that cares.

Hopefully BB will highlight other such giving groups and individuals, at least one per month.  Try to do the same Beautifuls.  If we all are on the lookout for givers, we will receive so much. To know there are those who care for our community helps us see the beauty there, and that in turn will spark more care and love from us. Imagínate if we all raised the vibes, how vibrant we’d all become.

Who will you highlight in your home town ?

Babushka Besos a todos.  Cuidensen.
P.S. If you'd like to know more about Operation Santa Wakulla,
to donate or maybe even start one in your hometown,

BB Blabs 'Bout 'Buela - Show 3 @Catherinebookwr Catherine R. Cameron

Grandmothers Grandparents Gloat @Catherinebookwr @BBabushka

HolaHolaHola Beautifuls!!!

Show 3 and good thing it was with a good friend! OMAAIIGGAA- Talk about Cubantime!  Creo que we spent more time trying to get online than what we spent on camera. Pero it was fun y lo pasamos bien.

Catherine R. Cameron lives in the same town of Crawfordville as BB and is of Latina heritage, pero this is where the similarity stops. ESTA MUJER NO PARA!!! The Energizer Bunny? He takes vitaminas just to keep up with her. Ok Si, Babushka hears you- "JU SO FONII!!!" but this is no cubaneo here.  Comenzamos,
And that's just her public persona Beautifuls.  In her vida privada she's an abuela to 18.  18!!!

If you watch the video you'll see Catherine's not one for long stories, she's definitely living life and showing others how it's done.  Crawfordville may be a little town, but there's nothing little in all she does and in what she believes in.  Es mas, she was a bit disheartened when she saw how job seekers would show up for interviews and the mess their resumes were, so she decided to help with a very thorough How-To for those seeking employment in offices.  Professional?  Just look at the video for it.

Having been in that arena herself, Babushka agrees with everything she wrote.

Are you looking for an administrative job? Professional guide for employment, career change, job

If you or someone you know could use it, BB highly recommends it.

Ahora, our short interview because honestly, flustered friends are mejor over café than computers.

Consider this our dress rehearsal.
We will do this one over... if BB can ever get Catherine to sit down again...

Babushka Besos a todos.  Cuidensen.

P.S.  If you ever wonder if being an abuelo means slowing and staying still, just bookmark this post pa'quitarte that idea!!

American Latino Heritage Fund Roadtrip- Tallahassee Twofer Part 2 Mission San Luis & TWAM

Day 2 of the American Latino Heritage Fund Roadtrip and I'm visiting Mission San Luis in Tallahassee Florida.  For those who've danced with BB before, you know I'm all about the fun of life, how all things are better if they're done with a smile and a laugh, and history- the studying of it- is no exception.  What good is the past if no one in the future wants to study or hear about it?  In Babushka's not so humble opinion I say we've got to keep it real- and alive.  Living history, re enactments, history through the feelings, the emotions, the senses, that's what is remembered and appreciated, and that's- pardon the intended pun, is the mission of the Mission (San Luis).

Mission San Luis is a working archaeological site that also incorporates a museum, re enactments, reconstructions, theater, food, and shopping.  Oh si, you know with all those elements it has to be one of BB's fav places and it is.  I happily volunteer at the mission and everytime I go I learn something new. I am very grateful to Karin Stanford, the Museum Programs Supervisor who was able to show some of the special features of the mission and share some of the fascinating history found within its boundaries.  I have highlighted this video about the fort found on the mission grounds, but you can go to my youtube channel and see the other sections and some excellent re enactors bringing history to our visitors.

Karin Stanford with background on the fort,
its' inhabitants and their significance to our state/national history.

Not only is Karin well versed in the events of Mission San Luis, she also has a wonderful artistic flair.  Look how beautifully staged she placed Carlitos.

Carlitos- You're timeless.

Ahora saben that I promised you a Tallahassee Twofer, and on this day I was in the welcoming and nourishing company of my fellow TWAM troupe members.  I'm sure you'll be able to see the joy and fun I was having with my good friends; they truly do enjoy sharing their talents, and how audiences enjoy them!

On Bohemian Babushka's Feibu page you'll see an interview w/Gabrielle Reed, Costume Mistress for TWAM.  She's the one who helped put the pizazz and touch of realism into BB's roadtrip and her talent is inmeasurable.  And speaking of inmeasurable talent, Benjamin Gunter the artistic director, writer, actor, song writer, interpreter (talent beyond measure- verdad?) explains what/who is TWAM, its' reason and vision for the future.

And for those who miss it, or think I've forgotten- my "signature phrase" is in the video

 ; )

the reason behind rhyme and drama- an example
how it brings passion and life to history
Thoughts & Theatrics.

It was nice to come back home to start the roadtrip.  I could think of no better place or group of people who could explain and personify the importance of history and show how the magic of making memories via the past is very possible and within our poder.

La historia es nuestra- vamos a vivirla!

The history is ours- let's live it!

Babushka Besos a todos.  Cuidensen.

P.S.  On Feibu you will see various pics of the day, especially archaeological findings that I wasn't able to include in this post.  Unfortunately the video interview I had on that portion of the Mission did not tape correctly, but the public is welcome to visit the archaeological part of the mission, just please make an appointment to do so.

P.P.S.  I promise to name the wonderful re enactors found on my youtube page and here in this post.  Hopefully not gonna run Cubantime on that one; they're worthy of mention and kudos.

P.P.P.S.  Another ulterior motive here- to raise the consciousness, the attendance and participations of Latinos in our national, state and local parks/landmarks.  Let's live our history with pride- and fun!
