BB’s plato using Avocados From Mexico!!

Babushka was challenged to come up with a recipe using the deliciosos Avocados From Mexico . Knowing that they were always in season y fresco, making a triple B (Bueno,Bonito y Barato) BB style snack was going to be fun. También it’s a great way to start being more health conscious con la comida. Quee?? Babushka give up mi comida Cuban tradicional completely?  JU SO FONII!!!  Pero adding more daily foods that are good for me will definitely be a positive help- con Sweetie with his prediabetes and BB with her roundness. You’re never too old to start eating healthier.

Main Ingredients for Avocado Stuffed Corn Muffins

Step 1. Chop the veggies. Combine to mix, delicious.

Step 2. Make corn muffin per package pero add 1/2 can corn & 1/2 creamed corn per package.

And here is where one of BB's famous Twofers comes in.

OJO!  Notice the mix goes inside the empty corn can.

No need to buy baking pans, pero eso si, cooking spray to help with no sticking!

Step 3. Cut the Avocados.

Tip-  Cut Avocados in the skin. Less mess and less chance de "mushing".

You can then peel the skin off.

Step 4. Make holes in the corn muffin loaves and fill with the Avocado mix.

Que rico se ve, right?

With a side of yogurt and a drizzle of miel on top, this snack just might become a favorite meal!

Believe BB when she says this recipe meets the 3 B requirement- y uno mas.

HolaHolaHola Beautifuls!!!

Increible pero cierto; My Little One is in college.  That picture of her primer "Tri co Tri" as Minnie Mouse really does bring back memories.  Las aventuras, the adventures we've had- especially since she was the one who accompanied Babushka to her move Up North in The South. The others of The Trio ya eran grande y mayor de edad, they stayed in Miami while we started our new life together.  It's been over 10 years now, but we still remember that car trip, filled to the brim y llena de felicidad and hope for the future.  Now her future is here, and a car y BB are still very much part of it.

My Little One attends university over 30 miles away- that's 60 + miles a day.  Babushka let her go sin la bendicion and a car that's operating smoothly?  JU SO FONII!!!  Por supuesto que no, and that's why when it's time to have an oil change only Quaker State ® Advanced Durability Motor Oil will do and we go to our local Walmart to have it done. BB trusts both with quality and has done so for years.

Now really Beautifuls, she's not going to be making her lunches, just filling the top with drinks, so might as well fill it with things she'll be using- Porseacaso.

No importa la edad, they will always be able to count on us.  Pa' eso es la familia, that is our cultura, asi somos, and BB wouldn't have it any other way.  Babushka's also glad that she can always find the three B's at my local Walmart.  Bueno, Bonito y Barato!!  Let's me spend more time and money on memorias with My Little One while making sure she's safe in a well maintained car gracias al Walmart Auto Center y Quaker State.

Cuando Babushka first heard of “Christmas in July” she thought it was the coolest thing ever!!  Y si, pun intended.  Why not cool off in summer and share gifts and good feelings mid year?? And what better way is there to cool off than with ice cream, and what is better at giving good feelings than baked goods-especialmente cookies y brownies!! Felizmente BB knew just where to get the mixes for those cookies y brownies, y pa' ya fui.

Being raised in Miami, by Cuban parents, our Christmases and Julys were usually very warm and tropical, so BB just had to combine both cultures, good 1st Generation CubanAmerican that she is. Therefore, Babushka’s contribution to this occasion is an ice cream cake, with brownies,cookie, and mango filling. BB feels the love and sees your smiles from here.

Ahora, like all good comida, the base has to be good, por lo tanto, non other than NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Baking Mix for BB. Porque you can’t beat the classics, but you can sure put a twist on them, and that’s exactamente what they did with these new desserts. So, considerando they’ve been doing the baking biz for 75 años, Babushka used their mix and expertise to help her make this twist on a classic too.

This is a 3 step ice cream cake with cookies, brownies, ice cream, mangoes y whipped cream.  The two mixes used were Nestle® TollHouse® Cookies & More w/Butterfingers and Brownies & More with chocolate Morsels. Y creame when BB says it took all her willpower not to eat the mix ins straight from the caja!!

RECIPE-

Ice Cream -Softened

Whipped Cream

Exact measurements? Now you know BB's a Cuban Grandmother so everything is "a la vista", pero appxs. Have been added in the steps.

Step 1- make the brownies and cookies. Cut the brownies in half/thin and crumble cookies.

Step 2- start layering the different ingredients.

Here BB took a brownie half then put appx 1/2 cup softened icecream then a crumbled cookie for each layer. The middle layer was enhanced with one mango slice cut into thirds. 

Make sure the bottom and top brownie layer are the flat halves of the brownies you made. Babushka used an 8x8 baking pan and from that made 3 individual ice cream cakes from 2 brownies that were sliced halfway, making it a 3 level cake. Had two levels of vanilla and one of chocolate. Also, to keep the layers together, a mini loaf pan lined with aluminum foil was used- it helps maintain the form as well as giving space to add more ice cream to the sides. You now put the cake into the freezer until it is completely frozen.

Step 3- Add whip cream around cake and decorate!!

Glamping with The Grands-Making Magical Memorias.

The above is a picture taken 20 years ago. Here is The Trio and Godson enjoying a campsite they had set up. Quee?? BB set up the camping gear? JU SO FONII!!! By this age each of the niños had a specific task to build the site, all Babushka had to do was drive them there.  Hopefully we’ll be able to do the same with The Grands, and now that there are 6 , Sweetie will be helping BB introduce them to the bella world of camping.
Naturalmente, we'll be taking it easy and going the glamping route first. Bueno, ok, maybe not too glamorous, but it will be in our backyard where we can always run into la casa if it gets too real for them. Pero if Grandpa y Babushka plan it right, it'll be magical instead.

First, some strategically placed items for them to discover and enjoy.

Morning campanitas; chimes to wake up to. Fairies and gnomes to play with,
gardens to plant, windmills to watch happily and lights throughout that will glow in the night.  

"All well and good" said Sweetie, 

"but if they are sleeping on hard ground they'll be too tired to enjoy any of it."

Definitivamente had a point there didn't he?  Our yard had cute items, pero it could use some filling up in the grass departamento. So,off to Walmart BB went,to make sure our grass was always greener.

While there, Babushka saw some other items that would just enhance the fun y magic a bit more...

Lawn Bowling, Bubbles, Pools and a Slide!

Y estos??  You can never have too many forest friends in BB's opinion.

Did y'all see those mushroom stools?  Cutisimos verdad???

Pero, as Sweetie had said, you can't appreciate much if you're not rested, 

so home BB went with the needed lawn fixerupper.

No se if you know it, but BB's back Up North in The South and feliz to be home. Si, Babushka's missing The Grands, La Tata and the two eldest hijos, but it was time to be with Sweetie and My Little One. It's time to go slow for awhile. Quee?? JU SO FONII !!!  Ok si, slow is a relative term in BB's case, pero you know what I mean. The pace here is slower, the air crisper, and the seasons even change! Thankfully though, the small town feeling doesn't. Me puse tan happy when Collective Bias asked me to visit CVS for this shop; BB missed her local store!!

He didn't have a clue what we were going to get, but he's always ready to help if he can.

As BB had said, this is our local CVS and I knew in just what section to find the Poise IMPRESSA.  Pobre Sweetie had no idea what the Poise Impressa did or why Babushka was so glad to find it, but he was happy to see that it was on sale, and even happier when he saw the coupon. Demonstrations work best on Sweetie, so I went ahead and did just that. Y no, the empleados had no problem with eso- como dije, this is BB's neighborhood CVS so they know Babushka and her ways.  Ahora- A BAILAR SE HA DICHO!!

  

Age and childbirth makes all the muscles loosen up a bit. And BB means ALL the muscles. It's a part of life, and we've got to dance with it. Problem is, the dance gets interrupted almost as soon as Babushka starts!! It really can make you sit out a couple of songs and situations if you think you'll "lose yourself in the moment". Couldn't wait to get home to see what exactly the Poise Impressa did and how.

Well it's purty enough on the outside, vamos a ver what it has por dentro.

A ver-

"You cannot wear the Poise Impressa if you are pregnant. If you have your period, you cannot use the Poise Impressa, as it is not a tampon." Bueno, this menopausal mujer doesn't need to worry about either one of those, so let's continue.

But it is curious, if it doesn't work like a tampon, that means it's not supposed to work as an absorber. Entonces? Apparently it's not about the amount of leakage or how much you weigh, because it's about finding the best internal fit.  Oh my. You mean for once in her life Babushka could actually use a smaller size???  Liking this already.

Although it isn't a tampon, the insertion of the Poise Impressa is the same procedure. They suggest you start with Size 1; if leakage occurs, move to size 2, then size 3 if necessary.

Other points to like, you do not need to remove them to use the bathroom and they support for up to 8 horas in a 24 hour period. Tambien, this is a soft, internal device with a non-absorbent outer cover, designed for the temporary management of Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI), Unintentional urine leakage during sudden movements, such as coughing, sneezing, laughing and exercising. So this Beautifuls is not supposed to soak up leaks, but prevent them.  ESOESOESO!!!

For Babushka the thought of dancing without inhibition is a wonderful thing!!

Nice & Quiet Way to end 2014

If you've been reading this blog, saben that 2014 found Babushka away from Sweetie weeks and sometimes months, but 2015 will be more time together, making up for lost time. Of course that is good, pero at our ages just missing each other isn't always enough.  Quee?? JU SO FONII!!! Ok si, Cubana al fin, BB's Hot Blooded, and that will never change, however the Menopause Mambo sometimes leaves skid marks on the dance floor. Not good when you're used to the Electric Slide and a waxed surface. Needless to say we were both very happy when Babushka was chosen for this shop- and waltzed right over to our neighborhood Walmart. Though Sweetie did try to maintain some seriousness and decorum.

As you well know My Beautifuls, BB usually goes to the product and physically does a "TaDaa" item pose,but not only was the product right next to the pharmacy, the patrons in line were questioning why anyone would want to take a picture of such products. Por la sonrisa, by the smile of Sweetie there was no question as to what products Babushka was taking pictures of. Actualmente, we were lucky to have gotten the K-Y® Yours + Mine pack; it was the last one left. Apparently BB and Sweetie aren't the only ballroom dancers in town.
