Emergency Natural Disaster

HolaHolaHola Beautifuls!

Do you remember where you were when Hurricane Andrew hit Florida? BB was in her house with esposo #2 and The Trio. Thankfully La Tata was in a hospital recovering from an operation and wasn’t staying with us at the moment. Why does Babushka say thankfully? Because it was scary enough having to be brave and calm for my children, but hurricane preparedness wasn’t taken that seriously back then, and there was no way BB would have known what to do about someone with a medical condition or disability. Through the double edged sword that was Andrew we’ve all learned to take emergencies more serious and are hopefully better prepared.

http://www.ready.gov/individuals-access-functional-needs.

"While each person’s abilities and needs vary, every individual can take steps to prepare for all types of emergencies. By evaluating your own individual needs and making an emergency plan that fits those needs, you and your loved ones can be better prepared. Some items to consider:

What medical devices or assistive technology devices you need to have with you if there is an evacuation order from local officials
Your plans to remain independent if you require oxygen or mechanical ventilation
Practice your plan with your support network, just like you would a fire drill.
Discuss your needs and/or the needs of a family member; learn about their assistance requirements or the services they depend on.
Advocate including people with disabilities and others with access and functional needs into emergency planning in your community.

All of these questions and more are covered in the free guide available for download here: http://www.fema.gov/media-library/assets/documents/90360

"We Prepare Every Day" PSA Info:

Created pro-bono by Free Range Studios, “We Prepare Every Day” shows whole community and individual emergency and disaster preparedness as a part of everyday planning. One of the goals of the PSA is to encourage all Americans to “Be Informed, Make a Plan, Build a Kit, and Get Involved.” Resources and guidelines on how to do this can be found at Ready.gov/MyPlan.

Be Informed
First, you need to be informed about potential emergencies and disasters where you live, work, or visit. Then, you can go about making a plan that fits you and your loved ones.

Make a Plan
Making a family emergency communication plan with your friends and family before a disaster occurs is important. Why? Because it will help you answer questions: how will you get in touch with each other? How will your family get to a safe place? It's important to make a plan now so that you will know where to meet, how to find each other following a disaster, and how to communicate in an emergency that works for your family’s specific communication needs.

Build a Kit
While each person’s abilities and needs vary, everyone can take steps to prepare for all types of emergencies. By evaluating your own individual needs and making an emergency plan that fits those needs, you and your loved ones can be better prepared. For example, if being without access to medications, help, or other services you need to maintain your health, safety and independence for even a couple of hours or days could be devastating, and you need to be prepared more than ever.

Get Involved
People with disabilities are encouraged to take a seat at their community and local government- level planning tables. Planning for emergencies and disasters with people who have disabilities and others with access and functional needs rather than planning for them will allow us to understand and address the needs of the whole community in a disaster.

Legacy- Have you thought what yours is and will be? Que concepto tan interesante right? One doesn’t really think too much about it; we’re all too busy just living. BB loves this campaign, making us think of our ancestors, how they shaped us and how we in turn will shape the next generation with our acciones. Very apropo that Walt Disney Records used The Lion King to be the first in their Legacy Collection. Where it All Began... Introductions, A BB Bounceback

WilliamLevy_Disney_TMNT_CristinaSaralegui
Just a sampling of the fun and special moments in the last 4 years.

HolaHolaHola Beautifuls!

The following is BB's first blog post; it was written on August 3, 2011. Si Beautifuls, it's been 4 años. Wow and Woah. A lot has happened in the course of those years. The family has gotten older, there have been marriages and there are new grandbabies. Mucho memories made and new friends along the way.  For those dancing for the first time with Babushka, hope you enjoy BB's dance steps, and for those who are regulars on the dance card- A BAILAR SE HA DICHO!!

Hola- or as we say around here, "Howdy".  Yep, Babushka's in "The South", which is funny if you think about it, because I spent most of my life in South Florida (Miami) which is further South than here, yet it's NEVER considered part of "The South".  North Havana maybe, but never "The South".  But I go off topic... get used to it- it's one of my many talents.

Babushka, full name Bohemian Babushka, BB if I like you, or THE Bohemian Babushka if I don't, has had in my 49 years, 2 marriages, 2 divorces, ____ lovers (being presently in "The South" I fall back on the Southern Belle's code of propriety and leave that blank, instead of a Miami "¿ Y Santa quien? )  many jobs, many businesses, many heartaches, but many heart sings as well.  Of course my Number One heart sings are my children.  Si, they also gave me heartache, but we all made it through puberty so, why dwell on that?  Borron y cuenta nueva.  My trio are my rocks- ok, at times rocks in/at the head, but again- why dwell on that?  My rocks, my reason for being (being crazy- sorry, beginning to dwell on that), my joys my true loves.  Until the grandchildren came into the picture.  Not that my trio aren't my true loves anymore, it's just that grandbabies are so tiny, so precious, and still so far away from puberty.  Ok, I'm dwelling- ever heard of shellshock?

Grandbabies- I've got 4 so far.  I say "so far"  because my eldest ( a 26 yr old beauty) has 2- a boy and a girl.; my son (a 25 yr old ex-Marine who has done his mom proud in so many ways)  has 2 boys and my little one (19 yr old intense yet sweet girl/woman who is striking, intelligent, gifted and better not be thinking of making babies yet) are still young enough to add to the family.  But not right now- por fa.  Let BB enjoy people saying "but you look so young to be a grandmother!" a little longer.  While I can still semi believe them.

Babushka has enjoyed this immensely and hopes you will dance with me again.  This has been but a little tease of who I am.  Tease- reminds me of my high school days, but again I'm going off topic. (such talent!) My blog will be on family, being female, being bilingual, being human -while always being brilliant.

And to those who don't understand YOUR brilliance, just look at them, smile, and say-
JU SO FONII !!!

@ViveMejor isn't just a site, it's Their Philosophy.

vivemejor-unilever-hispano-bbabushka

HolaHolaHola Beautifuls!

BB supposes this falls under the "sponsored post" category for the FTC, considering all the products Babushka's received from the folks of ViveMejor/Unilever, pero because it's been years, it feels more like family reunions, parties where they give out recordatorios of the event.  Y si Beautifuls, it has been years, since 2012 to be exact, when Babushka first saw the truth behind the ViveMejor philosophy.

At that first Hispanicize they set themselves apart by having a big room for their demonstrations. It was not only a place for great info, samples and swag, but in the midst of the "Potencia that is Hispanicize" it was a place of calm, to find center, feel welcomed. Matter of fact, there was a woman who used that space to breastfeed her child, that's how homey and loving the ViveMejor ambiance was. Whoever named it "Hogar Vivemejor Lounge" deserves a definite ESO!!!

BB had just started blogging, and this was before Babushka had a smartphone, and before Instagram, so please forgive the blurriness.  That's a scan of the actual program received, and the notes on it.

 The post:
http://bohemianbabushka.bbabushka.com/2012/09/home-sweet-hogar-vivemejor-lounge.html

Skipping a year (and how everyone missed them), ViveMejor was at Hispz14, and the joy was heard from all! Pero BB had to be the one who jumped and shouted cheers the loudest. Quee? No surprise there?  JU SO FONII!!! Seriously Beautifuls, though they were in an open corner, the colors, decor, speakers, the PR reps, we were back home y con familia. So many blogueras chose that space to just chill with each other and work. The something, something we all felt the first year was there again, it hadn't been lost. Todos felt again en casa and welcomed.

Y pa' que vean that Babushka wasn't alone in her admiration, mi amiga Tiffany concurred.

And theirs is not a one time amor Beautifuls. That feeling of appreciation is throughout the year.

BB's post-

At Hispz15, if you see the recap, you'll see ViveMejor shown 3x in a 15 sec flipagram. Chances are pretty good that if you were looking for BB, the ViveMejor corner was where you'd find me. There was pampering, product demonstrations, the ViveMejor team, and it seemed like all the blogueras ended up there too! ViveMejor showed us how to get new life from products we've been using for generaciones, and how to seem/feel like new for those of us who've been through generaciones.

Oh, y la Gallina Vieja in the pic? No, not BB, the cute one. Her name is Knorrmita. Knorr- get it?
jehe   Babushka's gotta love that ViveMejor Bunch!

Ahora, I hear you say "Babushka, esta bien. I get you feeling en casa and comfortable in that surrounding, pero es pa' tanto?"  Oh Si y You Betcha!! Let BB explain how she sees ViveMejor, its products, its team and its philosophy.

In 2012 the ViveMejor Lounge was Babushka's calm in chaos, donde esta vieja could not only breathe, but breathe in the zen of the zone. It was here that I made the acquaintance of the team and saw Ema be assistant for another chef. The cariño and care they showed to this vieja, newbie bloguera touched me and forever engrained my appreciation. Es mas, when Ema was appointed as head chef for the next Hispanicize I felt like a proud tia and was so happy and proud of her. She truly is buena gente, and down to earth, real. And that about encompasses the whole thought and ambiance behind ViveMejor. They see the REAL, the whole. Just look at the screenshot BB took of their site.

 Notice the categories-
1st the fork/knife- Cocina y Recetas. Ya con eso they had BB.
2nd the comb- Belleza y Estilo To find one's personal beauty y style.
3rd the woman- Vida y Cultura- Life & Culture

 vivemejor-unilever-gratitude- bbabushka

They are including the WHOLE persona Beautifuls. THIS is what they saw in BB. ViveMejor wants each of us to be the best that we can, have the best that we can, see the best in life that we can. Their products have been in our lives for generations and this site shows how we don't have to be stagnant- not with our foods, our views on beauty, nor with our definition of living.  This page is about cultivating gratitud.  Babushka for her part is very grateful to ViveMejor for being the first sponsor to believe in her and helping her to see what a Groovy Grandma, Vieja Viajera can do and how much she still has to do. Si, pa' BB ViveMejor es familia- and I'm a BIG believer in Nepotism and helping those you love.  Y porque no? If you have someone you care for, you brag about them and share their accomplishments and good ideas verdad? So know it's from the corazon when Babushka shares these:

Go ahead and take a look around the ViveMejor Sites Beautifuls.
Estoy segura you'll be as appreciative as Babushka.

@ConsumerReports shares how Hospitals Make Us Sick #AdiosSuperBacterias #SlamSuperBugs

This is a sponsored post that BB believes should fall under Social Good.
All opinions stated are Babushka's.

consumer reports MRSA Testing

HolaHolaHola Beautifuls!!!

When BB was bb, she remembers her dad going to visit relatives in the hospital, but he wouldn't touch anything, stood standing, and didn't even drink from the water fountains. "There are germs all over the place here, ni el agua es safe." Turns out el viejo wasn't far from the truth.

Now you know BB's all about the positive, pero it's easier to be positivo if you're in good health, and the very place we go to get mejor might be the very place that gets us peor.  Hospitales should be the one place we're safe from the new "super bugs"; lamentablemente they are the perfect breeding place for them.  Every year an estimated 648,000 personas in the US develop infecciones during a hospital stay and according to the CDC- Center for Disease Control and prevention, about 75,000 end in death.

Does this mean we shouldn't go to hospitals??  JU SO FONII!!! Of course we need hospitales, but we need to go in with los ojos abiertos and a plan to betterment not bitterment. So, before you get all paranoid and freakiada, there are steps you can do to protect yourself and loved ones- even if you just go pa' visita.  The above graphic gives you excellent suggestions, and the Tweety Chat hosted by Elianne Ramos aka @ERGeekGoddess va estar super informative about these new strains of bacterias.
