BB definitely has felt the dancing, even had to comprar cases of Dr.Scholl's, but it was all a choice as to who would be Babushka's partner. Does your memoria say the same to you? Did you truly live the last ten years? Are you ready to totally live the next?  For her part, BB looks forward to the upcoming 10 years of bailes and hopes you'll be dancing right alongside her.

#TBT BB's Memorable Memorial Day 2012

HolaHolaHola Beautifuls! The following was originally posted in Junio of 2012.  Babushka's blog has changed a bit since this was written, and si, it's been a few years, pero she remembers the day well. A newbie on the blogging scene, BB was touched by the kindness of strangers who welcomed her into their mundo.  

Except for updating some of the links, the post is shared just as it was written in 2012. One importante nota to add- the original dedication was in memory to our military heroes, in this writing Babushka is also honoring Jewel Figueras, a blogger who became a very querida amiga. She too fought for the liberties and derechos of others and lost her fight to ovarian cancer in 2017. No doubt she is shining brightly in heaven as she did for us here.

BB had no plans for Memorial Day.  As you know, I am currently in Miami visiting La Tata, with no transportation except public transit, which actually isn't a bad way to travel and I wish we had it in my rural town Up North in The South, but the days are getting hotter and the walks between bus stops and final destinations seem longer when its hotter, and those of you who know me know Babushka doesn't do hotter, so before this one sentence becomes a paragraph all by itself, let's just stop it here and say BB had no plans for Memorial Day.

But then there was Feibu. 

Actually, then there was an invite via Feibu from the Hispanicize team to join them at Jungle Island- free admission w/BBQ for a blogger and a family member. Hola! 

BB pass up a chance to go out, with family, for food, and for free? JU SO FONII!!

Show 2 of BB Blabs 'Bout 'Buela just wrapped up, y no por na' but it was BUENISIMO!!!

You know how it is when you get together with friends, the time just goes by bolando.  If you've been reading Babushka's blog you're no stranger to Janie Flores. She's been a member of Bloggin' Mamas for years now. Together we've been to Woman Executive Events, Carnaval Miami, and numerous Ford y Hispanicize events. Pero this was the first time we actually got to have a conversation for more than 15 mins, and if we could have kept going it would have been much longer than the 30 we taped. Especially since it was about our favorite subject, Grandchildren.


Now don't be thinking that's ALL we talked about, los abuelos of today are into many things and can speak and do more than that. Matter of fact, Janie's schedule and interests are impressive - tv production, real estate, organizing empowerment tours to Israel, oh si, the topics were so varied that at times it seemed the shows Grandparent premise was forgotten. JU SO FONII!!! Go ahead and see for yourself how abuelos and their importance is ever present.

BUENISIMO verdad??!!??!! Como abuelos, this is our legacy, to show future generations that advancing age does not equal diminishing worth, one never gives up or stops dreaming.  The lessons of our abuelos are not just part of our past; they also shape our present and future. And BB's still got a lot of shaping to do.

BB Blabs 'Bout 'Buela - Show 1 w/ @FelixMontelara

Did you know that originally this blog was supposed to be a radio program?  Babushka's Baile was to be on blogtalk radio... but then BB realized she needed someone to talk to, guests, listeners.  Not that Babushka couldn't talk all by herself for at least 30 minutes, Cubana al fin, but it's more fun with others.  So the show was put on the back burner for awhile, 'till there was more of an audience.  That back burner turned into a slowcooker; it took almost 5 years to come full circle.  And once again, it was thanks to Hispanicize that it came to be.

The true start of Babushka's aventuras were thanks to that fateful time BB approached Maria de los Angeles during a Travel Blogger panel in the 2012 Hispanicize. Because it was asked, the chance taken, the offer to be part of the American Latino Heritage Fund Roadtrip was made. And Babushka's never looked back.

In 2015, another panel was given, tambien en HIspanicize, and this one was on podcasting.  The panel was fascinating, and here was where, Felix Montelara, The Potential Millionaire, became special in Babushka's vida. Aqui lo bautize, The Preacher of Podcasting, porque even as an audience member, Felix was especially informative and entertaining. The memory of BB's original vision returned, pero honestly, it was a bit intimidating this new, technologically heavy world, so although we spoke briefly on the vision, the show estaria cocinanco otro año.

Come 2016, another panel on podcasting at Hispanicize, no denying las ganas, y cuando Felix approached BB, remembering her from the prior year and asking if she had started her broadcast yet, it was taken as a sign.  The audience and following had been made, there were guests who could be invited, it was time to do the show.

"BB's Blab 'Bout 'Buelos",the program where Grandparents Gloat and Grandchildren Remember. A place where we never tire of hearing how precious and precocious son los nietos, and also how precious and dear were your abuelos.  Our first show was on Sunday, and since the S Sisters continue to bless BB, guess who was the first guest?  None other than Mr. Felix Montelara himself!!  

Just as it had happened w/My Capitan Maria, paso con Felix. By Babushka taking the initiative of approaching them, she ended up working with them. BB not follow a dream? JU SO FONII!!! Remember this Beautifuls, take that chance, tu nunca sabes...

#HISPZ16 Time for Doing Good and Getting Better.

La Potencia que es Hispanicize is upon us once again, and thanks to the S Sisters Babushka will be attending once again. Didn't think BB was going to go this year, but fairy Godmothers/fathers DO exist. Gracias to Miriam, Manny, Heather y Maria, this will be the fifth time Blessed. Why does Babushka call this a blessing?  JU SO FONII !!! Hispanicize is THE event to attend if you are in the hispanic social media, or want to be.

#Hispz16 is the iconic, largest annual event for Latino trendsetters and newsmakers in digital content creation, journalism, marketing, entertainment and tech entrepreneurship. The event will take place in downtown Miami’s InterContinental hotel, April 4-8, 2016. The Hispanicize event is a launch pad for creative endeavors, new products, technologies, marketing campaigns, films, books and more targeting Latinos in the U.S. and/or Puerto Rico.

Vieron why BB calls it La Potencia? Pero realmente, it's so much more than that and it truly is one of those things you have to experience in person to see/feel the power and potential.  It's gathering of like minded individuals who believe in the power of Latinos, our talents, contributions, and aspirations. A place where we can exchange ideas, knowledge, concerns to better each other and in turn our world. After 5 years Beautifuls, this is like a family reunion for BB. A family reunion where as a collective we can change things we care about. Es mas, there will be a panel "Multicultural Influence for Commerce,Justice, and Social Good" presented by The Colvert Foundation. Y'all KNOW how much Babushka believes in doing things for Social Good and am especially feliz that she can do another BB Twofer,  This year mi querida amiga Laurita Tellado is launching her Non-profit The Laurita Spina Bifida Project.  Laurita and her Bella familia have been very special to BB for many years now and being able to help in such a worthwhile cause is a wonderful thing. 

"Spina bifida is a neural tube defect that leaves an opening in the underdeveloped spine at birth. It is more common than muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, and cystic fibrosis combined. 70 percent of cases, there are as many as 166,000 people living with spina bifida in the country. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Latinos have the highest incidence of spina bifida of all ethnicities." Laurita was born with Spina Bifida and is now the Maravillosa Ms. we all love, but it hasn't been, and isn't without its' trials and frustrations. 

“Many organizations that cater to the spina bifida community are almost exclusively focusing on preventing spina bifida, and are founded and run by parents and health professionals,” Tellado said. “The Laurita Spina Bifida Project seeks to educate the community about the issues affecting those of us currently living with spina bifida. We are the first organization of our kind— conceptualized and founded by an individual  who is living with Spina Bifida." 

And that is the heart of Hispanicize Beautifuls, helping each other.  Pero there's also the soul of our hispanidad- La Musica.  It's another track and major plus of going to HIspanicize. Babushka was introduced to so many up and coming artists who are now major players en la musica!  And you know how much BB loves her dance!  So, come join us in Miami for #Hispz16 ; Babushka will be covering it on social media, just follow the hashtag y  A BAILAR SE HA DICHO!!!

BB supposes this falls under the "sponsored post" category for the FTC, considering all the products Babushka's received from the folks of ViveMejor/Unilever, pero because it's been years, it feels more like family reunions, parties where they give out recordatorios of the event.  Y si Beautifuls, it has been years, since 2012 to be exact, when Babushka first saw the truth behind the ViveMejor philosophy.

At that first Hispanicize they set themselves apart by having a big room for their demonstrations. It was not only a place for great info,samples and swag, but in the midst of the "Potencia that is Hispanicize" it was a place of calm, to find center, feel welcomed. Matter of fact, there was a woman who used that space to breastfeed her child, that's how homey and loving the ViveMejor ambiance was. Whoever named it "Hogar Vivemejor Lounge" deserves a definite ESO!!!

BB had just started blogging, and this was before Babushka had a smartphone, and before Instagram, so please forgive the blurriness.  That's a scan of the actual program received, and the notes on it.

Skipping a year (and how everyone missed them), ViveMejor was at Hispz14, and the joy was heard from all! Pero BB had to be the one who jumped and shouted cheers the loudest. Quee? No surprise there?  JU SO FONII!!! Seriously Beautifuls, though they were in an open corner, the colors, decor, speakers,the PR reps, we were back home y con familia. So many blogueras chose that space to just chill with each other and work. The something,something we all felt the first year was there again, it hadn't been lost. Todos felt again en casa and welcomed.

At Hispz15, if you see the recap, you'll see ViveMejor shown 3x in a 15 sec flipagram. Chances are pretty good that if you were looking for BB, the ViveMejor corner was where you'd find me. There was pampering, product demonstrations, the ViveMejor team, and it seemed like all the blogueras ended up there too! ViveMejor showed us how to get new life from products we've been using for generaciones, and how to seem/feel like new for those of us who've been through generaciones.

#Hispz15 - 4 months later and Still Recuperating

This is a recap of  Hispanicize 2015.

 Like all conferences/fiestas there were goodies,swag,promo items given out. 

HOWEVER, no matter how BUENISIMO the regalitos were,

Hispanicize 2015- the 4th Hispanicize conference/event BB attends. 

It has been 4 months, 10 days since that week and Babushka still glazes over when she thinks of it.  Quee?

Obviously you've never attended a Hispanicize event.  This was Babushka's 4th year going.

For the next Hispanicize Sweetie will be accompanying me since he would have been a blogger for over a year.  Can you imagine my laidback Sweetie in the Den of Dizzying Delicias that is Hispanicize?  Don't think there's enough cafe Cubano to bring him up to speed.  Pero that's ok with BB.  This being my 5th Hispanicize, it'll be like visiting distant relatives, catching up on their stories and making some new ones with our actividades. BB Pulled Her Own Finger aka How NOT to pitch to #Sponsors, A Cautionary Tale for #Conference Goers

BB was told Queen Victoria had said that, and even though it couldn't be substantiated,the truth behind the statement was something I should have followed.  Oh si, somethings should never be left on the back burner. Literally.

Last week Babushka went to #Hispz15 , the fourth Hispanicize event BB atended. This year they did things a bit differently;bloggers had to sign up beforehand for some events/sessions and then wait to see if they had been selected.  This one event, the invite arrived 40 mins before it actually started. Needless to say Cubantime was in order, but not too much so as La Tata's home was only 20 mins away via public transit. Ya the stomach was starting its churning...

If any of you have had the chance to meet an important possible sponsor/client you know you don't want to miss one minute of the opportunity. Especially when they came just to hear what attendees had to say. And you know BB always has something to say. Bueno, this was over breakfast and of course cafe was served. Cafe, nerves,excitement...you see it coming verdad?  

One of the sponsors team wanted to speak with Babushka about a comment she had made and asked to meet with her afterwards. Who was BB to say no?? In hindsight, maybe a "later" would have been better.  Speaking with the first rep was good, the second was charming, and said she definitely wanted me to speak with the last associate who was the head of Florida. Oh my- the motherlode.  Unfortunately, by the time that happened,it was- Oh My, The Motherload!!!

Babushka did try to disimular-pretend that she was walking away (backwards, still conversing and looking at the sponsor) because she was late for another session. Still not sure if being the only two left in the room was a good thing, as there was no one else to blame the silent killer on...

As you well know My Beautifuls, BB tries to see the positive in every situation.  The business cards of this sponsor have mysteriously disappeared from the stack of cards collected.  Will there be a frantic search for them?  JU SO FONII!!!  Babushka will now follow Queen Victoria's example and be poised, knowing they will appear when the time is right. When the sponsors eyes have stopped watering and can read my email.

Today we continue the #Hispz14 posts with the pre-party celebration.  Now, only Hispanicize could have a pre-party party, and seeing that they started it, only Sherwin Williams Latino could continue that tradition.  In case you didn't read last years pre-party post, aqui esta, here it is. I can just see the @SWPintura team wondering what else besides color could be part of a Latinos soul?? Naturally Café had to be on that brainstorming list, and no one better than la gente de Coffee-mate to accompany that one.
