It’s May. As BB said in the pic, es Mayo, que Rayo!! In other words, where is this year going and how’d we get here so quickly? Oh, and Mother’s Day. Believe it or not, those thoughts are definitely connectable. Let Babushka illustrate.

May, almost mid-year. Let that sink in. No se about you Beautifuls, pero BB still has some Crisma decoraciones out. Honestamente, the putting together of tax info had Babushka reliving last year, and those decorations son cutisimos y always bring happy smiles, so porque no? That’s the reason and BB’s sticking to them.  😜 

Procrastination you say? Tal vez, pero daily dance is getting faster and faster and getting harder and harder to control. Kinda reminds one of parenthood. Vieron how Babushka is sliding into Mother’s Day?  😉

Just like our daily vida, the passing of days, is the passing of parenthood. Quick, with memorable moments and moments one would rather forget. (Puberty- ::Shudder::) And then the end of our dailies with los hijos. Ok si, if you’re lucky you get a daily text- ya llamadas are sooo yesterday, pero on the whole, most of us have fotos and memorias of that time.

Do you have your refrigerator full of yesterdays? Sweet and Bittersweet verdad? Went by quickly verdad? Hopefully this makes you take a quick break and a quick look back.

Has the year been corre corre or have you had a chance, made a chance to enjoy? May is el momento perfecto. Make the time to do that and to enjoy your Madre- in memoria if you aren’t blessed to still have her with you.

Babushka feels Bendecida to have so many good memorias- one of them is having you Beautifuls dancing with her. Anda, recuerdos bonitos, y realization of those now and to come.

It’s May already. This month we in the US celebrate Mother’s Day. A day one typically thinks of Mom, nuestra madre.  As well we should. First, she gave us life. Segundo, she gave us amor.  Thirdly, she gave us the best she knew, the best she had, both materially and spiritually. So si, most definitely Mother’s should be celebrated and thanked. And emulated. To Ourselves.

Beautifuls, let’s realize this. Aunque we will always be our Mama’s bebe, we are, for the most part, adultos. Tiempo to do for ourselves.  This month, let’s surround ourselves with Mothering, Mother Love, Self Love. It truly isn’t hard. Here, let BB give you some ejemplos.

1)  We’ve all seen babies who just smile with all their beings when seing their mom. Let’s start doing that when we first look into the mirror each dia. Amor, Happy to be Alive. 

2) Musica. What brings joy to your soul when you hear it? PLAY IT. 

If it leads to dance, Dance. If it leads to song, Sing. LET IT FILL YOU.

3) Joy of just Being.  Be in the sun, feel it’s warmth and know the Universe is hugging you.

Sit in Silence and know YOU are watched and being loved. 

JUST AS YOU ARE. ALWAYS being wished the Best for you.

Es May already. Wow and Woah. No se about y’all, but the start of 2022 BB was slowly leaving the Covid cloud, emerging at a hesitant pace, pero happy to be emerging. Pasito a pasito, truthfully it was kinda nice to go at a measured mind frame. Febrero of course being the shortest month went by quickly, after that, the “new normal” has sent in and ya May is here! They say April Showers bring May Flowers, which besides the obvious means adversity brings loveliness, what slows you down becomes an asset. Think about that Beautifuls. Have you been watching your jardin grow?

Do you remember your New Year’s resolutions? Your goals for the year, the things you wanted to do, the vision of your life. Go back to your garden. Si, BB knows, a lot of fertilizing has been going on, time to till the tierra. Weed out the things you no longer want or have space for and cultivate your cosecha. Think and Thin Out what is truly you, all else can be put aside.

And what has this to do with Mother’s Day? Bueno, to start, we’re talking May is for new growth, and isn’t that what makes mothers, that “new growth”. Again, besides the obvious, the growth is a wonderful gift to mom. To see their child grow against life’s adversities, to see them find their strengths, their desires, and go for them in all weather, to bloom into their own and stand tall in the sun. To see them swaying through the seasons, staying true to their colors and calling, this is the greatest gift you can give your madre. Her cosecha is charged and cosmic, ever growing, filled with truths and love. Show her your love and gratitude Beautifuls, show her a life you love. Become a master gardener and share your bounty.

It’s May, the month most think of Mothers, because in the US, Mother’s Day is celebrated the second Sunday of the month. Now BB asks, rephrasing the famous “Which came first, the chicken or the egg?” question, Which came first, the Grandmother or the Mother?  QueQue??  Ok, Ok, not going to get too philosophical here, pero think about it un poquito.  Those of us who were blessed to be Mothers, where did we get our “How-to” or “How to Not”s from? Ahuh. And them? It goes straight on back, generations upon generaciones . And in retrospect, all of them/us had moments we’d wished we had known about or done better. To help us with this is a wonderful libro, The First Time Grandmother’s Journal. The book was written by BB’s amiga Lisa Carpenter, grandmother to 7 boys, writer of many things, including the wonderful blog “Grandma’s Briefs”. 

Ahora, even though she says it’s a book “Inspiring Prompts to Celebrate Your Experience with a New Grandchild”, BB says it’s much more than that. Aqui are some of her prompts:

Sound like things we should do for ourselves verdad? 

Consciously practice doing one thing at a time.

Again, things we should do for ourselves? That Beautifuls, is Babushka’s wish for All. To honor and love our mothers, grandmothers, antepasados, in their wisdom and mistakes. And to honor and love ourselves in our wisdom and mistakes. Because no matter how often we question or doubt the reasons for being, the final que y porque is to love. Love la vida y each other, for we all are familia, to respect,  relate, and rejoice. Let us celebrar each new birth,new madre, new abuela, and the knowing that Love is what came first.

#TBT A Favorite Mother's Day - MAC and the Miami Tunnel

This tale was originally told in 2012. Si, it's been 8 years that BB has been bailando, and the love is still there. Just as it's been over 30 years that she's a madre, and the amor is most definitely still there.  So here she proudly shares a gift her son MAC gave her, with thought and corazon.

5:30 a.m. my son pulls into the driveway, hands me a hard hat and says,

"Happy Mother's Day Ma." 

Ok, si, we never were the typical familia.

BB raised her trio to believe in themselves and in what they were doing, to love what they were doing- or at the very least, to find something to love in what they were doing.  In all instances do things with heart, from the heart, and always- with gusto & passion! 

Another lesson I tried to stress was the importance of homemade gifts.  Que? Does that mean BB would turn down cash or a Starbucks GC?  JU SO FONII!!!  What better complement to a homemade card than having one of those tucked inside?  Seriously though, and once again, presents with heart, from the heart.

And so my son, knowing that BB loves twofers (that's two things for the price of one) was going to give me a peek at what he was doing, a tour of his latest job, the Port of Miami Tunnel, and the greatest homemade gift a child can give to their mother- time together.  

Naturally Babushka was thrilled when Marine MAC, that's one of the nicknames I have for my son, called to inform me that although he had to work on Madre's Day, he wanted to spend some time together and would pick me up. He wanted to give me a behind the scenes look of the news making tunnel. Oh Joy!  At 5:30 a.m.  Oh. Joy.

At the port the tour begins. With camera and fan in hand, hard hat in place and visitor tag on lapel, BB tries to keep up.  Being my son, and a military man, my son knows only two ways to speak.  Either he's detailed and extensive, or short and to the point.  Extremes Are Excellent. Thankfully he started off detailed, but once Mr. Sun started to heat the air and he saw BB's fan a fury MAC knew it was time to switch to monosyllables, just naming the parts of the equipment.  The following pictures were not the only pictures taken during the tour, but being 5:30 a.m.,a mom, and non mechanically inclined, these are the photos most important to Babushka.

P.S. When BB started the blog MM didn't want  his pic showing, for this post he said yes.  Another gift from my boy.  Handsome devil isn't he?

P.P.S.  On the way to the port my son explained that due to traffic and the heat being heavier later in the day he decided the beginning of his shift would be the best time for the tour.  Oh he knows me too well, como si lo hubiera parido.  ; )   

P.P.P.S. Later in the evening, MM's sons, my grandsons Rinquincaya and PicaPica, and my DIL came by with dinner for me and La Tata.  Oh si, one of my best Mother's Day ever.

Hola,Hola,Hola Beautifuls!

May, que Maravilla! The month of flowers and the ultimate female power- motherhood.  If you recall in last month’s article, Babushka promised to share info on conferences attended, and she’ll do just that now. Quee?? These not be related? JU SO FONII!! But of course they are. Abren la mente for a little twofer BB calls the Essence of Conferences. May es de la Mujer.

In Chinese cosmology, the Yin is the feminine force, and combined with the masculine Yang make up all things. The Yang force places value on self, while the Yin force, on a deep level, is what places values on others before self.  Isn’t this the perfect definition of what motherhood is about? In this category BB also places the We All Grow Summit , which just by the title shows its emphasis.

A Latina influencer/blogger focused conference (though of course all are welcomed) held in California in March, this was the #WeAllGrow Summit 2017: Energy of Sisterhood; the third conference of this type and one Babushka had been longing to attend.

Con decirte, que for the first time EVER Babushka literally let down her hair. Tal era the Yin in this evento. From the opening party, the signs/reminders of our worth and those of the Herman(a)dad, to being Warrior Princesses for ourselves and our loved ones; it was a touching and empowering three days that will forever be cherished.  Como dije en el ultimo article, we must invest in ourselves, and the #WeAllGrow summit on all levels was a lifelong memoria that will always bring BB felicidad and fuerza.
