Counting Books You Can Count On. #Owls & #Oscar Oh My!

Babushka was sent the following books for review. All opinions are hers and The Grands.

Babushka has been scarce around these partes; home life has been super requete busy lately, what with medical meanderings, birthdays and end of school. Pero like todo, there is a positivo.  BB is spending more time with familia, especialmente The Grands.  If you're like Babushka and have little ones about then you'll love reading to them, especialmente if you can do twofers with the libros.  With these books you read while teaching them how to contar. Learning during together time. ESO!!

The first book we're going to highlight se llama 10,9,8…Owls Up Late! 

(Silver Dolphin; ISBN: 9781684121847; $9.99; 26 pgs; Ages 3-5) ten little owls are playing in a tree, hopping and hooting happily. But Mama Owl calls from down in the nest, “It’s bedtime now; it’s time to rest.” Peek through the pages and spot the mischievous owls in this fun counting book, perfect for bedtime! Featuring fun rhyming text, funny illustrations and peek-through die-cut pages.

Este is SURE to become a classic.  The escrito, BB almost calls it lyrics, because one naturally goes into a singsong while reading.  The story, sweet and easy to sympathize is true to life's moments and a madres amor. Illustrations are well done, being detailed and colorful, but not so much so that it jars sleep away.  A definitivo para mimir in Baushka's house. You'll enjoy this bedtime boardbook with your little ones, for sure to be a favorito.

Next is already a classic-bueno, the characters are.  Sesame Street: 5 Little Rubber Duckies

 (Studio Fun; ISBN: 9780794441197; $11.99; 12 pgs) is educational fun for little ones 2 and up, as they learn their numbers with Elmo and friends!

Of course BB ordered the one in Spanish. Ahora eso si, Dr. J read it in Spanish? JU SO FONII!!! Pero seguimos tratando; you can never give up on teaching them another language. At least they'll hear the way it's supposed to sound when they decide they want to speak it.

So here's to a summer of family time learning and reading.  BB's looking forward to it.

Babushka has always loved reading and the world of books; that's probably where my love of storytelling began. Quee?? JU SO FONII!!! Ok, si, being Cubana, tambien it's in my sangre, pero the look Belle of Beauty and the Beast has when she goes into his library?  Es el mismo look Babushka has when she enters a library.  The life changing mundos & maravillas one encounters in that magical place! 

Having loved reading since childhood you KNOW BB started The Trio early with the Love of Libros and naturalmente even more so with The Grands .  When DIL told me PicaPica and Rinquincaya wanted books as presents, Babushka knew the tradition lived on.  Felizmente the tradition of good cuentos, stories worth sharing and cherishing lives on too.  Gracias to DIL for introducing us to the world of Usborne Books. Quality y que Quantity!! So much so she had to become a consultant!

These were the first books Babushka bought for Grands 5 & 6.  Very impressed with the colores y quality, creo there will be more of this type to be added to our library. BB's sure she'll be learning some new words too!  Pero the selection isn't just here, or just for this age group.  Usborne tiene from babies to teens, in all types of categories and always ready to entertain.  Speaking of entertaining, how about these last days of summer when all has been done and it's just too hot to go outside?

Y que me dicen of those long road trips with the never ending "Are we there yet?"

Wowed by Wubbzy y El Tren Bilingual App

Don't know how many of you are from a bilingual home, but it can be a tricky thing teaching the younger generation their ancestors' tongue.  Babushka never spoke Spanish as a child, hence the Spanglish and the reason why my trio speak Miamish (that's Spanglish Miami Style).  Thankfully we lived with La Tata when the children were young and at least they learned some Spanish correctly.  Problem is, the young don't find the foreign language "cool". Yep, even in Pre-K they balk at speaking it, but I think I may have found a perfect way to "coolify" el Español for my grandbabies.

Rinquincaya  starting out not too happy but quickly found the games.

Then after the games he tried the stories.

By his own admission this was "Cool" and by himself decided to repeat the words of the story.  Pero the coolest thing?  He answered his mother's question asked in Spanish and wanted to continue playing in the language of his ancestors.  What a great way to learn Spanish.
