Today is Valentine’s Day, and seeing that children and books are two of BB’s biggest loves, figured it was a perfecto combinacion. The books shared here were given for review. Opinions are Babushka’s.

Children’s literature hoy en dia, today’s books are touching subjects Babushka doesn’t recall reading about when she was young. Not in the libros of that era, nor the ones BB read to The Trio. Subjects on selfworth, knowing family love, respeto,homelessness, muy importante and worthy of discussion. The following two books deal with some of these topics in engaging and endearing ways.

The primero es-

It's the last day of "the month of love" and Babushka couldn't have it end without mentioning two of her favorite loves that just go perfectly together.  Children and Books.  Quee? Ok si, in today's world you can and should encourage reading in any form, but there's something magical when that world is sans electricidad, when the only power needed is in the mind. Oh the preciousness, the power in  that.   BB believes in that powerful magic, and here shares with you some of her latest wands.

Angels On My Pillow

In Babushka's familia, it is customary to say- Que suenes con los angelitos. May you dream with the angels.  This sweet libro takes it a step further and shows how a child wonders about their angelitos. Cutisimo.

"Many people have wondered about their guardian angels, heavenly creatures made by God to protect and watch over us. Children’s author Karen Kelly believes in them and sees angels as “the bridge that connects human beings to pure and unconditional love.” Guardian angels are a big part of her recently released illustrated picture book, “Angels on Your Pillow.”

The story is based on a loving memory of Kelly’s mother tucking her into bed and saying to her “good night, sleep tight, angels on your pillow” as a way for her to fall asleep. She and her sister would unzip a down pillow to release the feathers and pretend that it was snowing angels.  Readers enter the tale of a little girl whose mother comforts her by telling her that there “areangels on her pillow” before going to sleep. The girl’s three guardian angels appear in her bedroom though she cannot see them. The moral of the story is to show audiences the knowledge of God’s unconditional love and to be receptive to it."

PILLOWLAND

This historia is about the enchanting Pillowland, which is perfecto porque el libro left Babushka enchanted. BB won this book from A Nation of Moms and truly feel lucky to have it.  One naturally falls into a signsong tone, the words just naturally lend itself to it. Then again, written by "the queen of children's music" Laurie Beckner, that should come as no surprise. And the illustrations, oh the illustrations Beautifuls are actually 3D cut outs! A world of imagination, gentility, where the royalty of races runs con amor, not lost on this reader, nor lost on the little one she read to.  Dr J tambien estaba encantado.

"A creative picture book interpretation of Berkner’s “Pillowland” song that follows three small children on a fantastic bedtime adventure.... The simple yet magical text with the detailed and comforting illustrations make this a phenomenal bedtime book or even an enjoyable read-aloud choice for a more sedate storytime. The chorus of the song incorporates some excellent sound effects (“fly a magic pillow plane, zoom zoom!”), and Garoche’s mixed-media illustrations incorporate cut paper, cloth, and light in intricate and magical assemblies. The Littlest Acorn

The last two libros were mas bien relaxing sleepytime books, pero Babushka end a post on a relaxed nota?  JU SO FONII!!! Este librito is to impact and empower- gently por supuesto, yet it reminds BB of her own mission, to have everyone realize and love themselves AS THEY ARE.  No harm in wanting more or striving for greatness, pero al final, in the core, todos are Great and Beautiful.

Babushka has always loved reading and the world of books; that's probably where my love of storytelling began. Quee?? JU SO FONII!!! Ok, si, being Cubana, tambien it's in my sangre, pero the look Belle of Beauty and the Beast has when she goes into his library?  Es el mismo look Babushka has when she enters a library.  The life changing mundos & maravillas one encounters in that magical place! 

Having loved reading since childhood you KNOW BB started The Trio early with the Love of Libros and naturalmente even more so with The Grands .  When DIL told me PicaPica and Rinquincaya wanted books as presents, Babushka knew the tradition lived on.  Felizmente the tradition of good cuentos, stories worth sharing and cherishing lives on too.  Gracias to DIL for introducing us to the world of Usborne Books. Quality y que Quantity!! So much so she had to become a consultant!

These were the first books Babushka bought for Grands 5 & 6.  Very impressed with the colores y quality, creo there will be more of this type to be added to our library. BB's sure she'll be learning some new words too!  Pero the selection isn't just here, or just for this age group.  Usborne tiene from babies to teens, in all types of categories and always ready to entertain.  Speaking of entertaining, how about these last days of summer when all has been done and it's just too hot to go outside?

Y que me dicen of those long road trips with the never ending "Are we there yet?"

Curious about #CuriousGeorge ? Meet His Creators,the Reys'-From Nazi Escape to New Hampshire US and Worldwide Amor. #monkeybusiness

Por supuesto and of course we all know and love that monito who gets into everything, Curious George. But did you know that his creators have gotten into quite a few things themselves? 

 Husband and wife, Hans and Margret Rey, "from their escape from Paris on handcrafted bicycles hours before the Nazis seized the city, to the impact they had on the lives of children growing up in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire" have a tale just as exciting and enchanting as any of their Curious George books. Betcha didn't know that verdad? BB didn't either and was very happy and almost as curious as George when the makers of the documentary MONKEY BUSINESS: The Adventures of George’s Curious Creators, contacted Babushka. This is the email received:

About The Film:

"We are excited to announce that the world’s favorite curious monkey is celebrating his 75th birthday this year! Since the first Curious George book was published in 1941, the stories of the adventurous little monkey have sold over 75 million copies in more than 20 languages. However, the story of George’s creators is much less known. MONKEY BUSINESS: The Adventures of George’s Curious Creators explores the extraordinary lives of husband and wife Hans and Margret Rey, from their escape from Paris on handcrafted bicycles hours before the Nazis seized the city, to the impact they had on the lives of children growing up in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire.  Han’s and Margaret's experiences, creative spirit and resilient attitude sparked the iconic children’s character beloved by the world.

Despite the occasionally heavy subject matter, we aim to tell the  Reys’ story with a whimsical, optimistic approach. The documentary in its entirety is intended to evoke the feeling of reading a Curious George book. The film is brought to life through archival material and animated sequences, using audio and video recordings of Hans and Margret, including interviews from those who knew the Reys well.

Production of the documentary is close to completion and will be submitted to festivals, but we need your help! How could Babushka say no?? In BB's Bunch there are 5 generations of George Lovers, with Dr. J being the latest aficionado. To show amor and gratitude to George's creators seems the least one could do.
