THT- Tallahassee Hispanic Theater- ESO!!! @TallyHispanicT #850Latinos

THT_Tallahassee_Hispanic_Theater

HolaHolaHola Beautifuls!

Y’all know Babushka is into The Arts, especially theater.  Cultivating cultura, especially when it’s not your typical mainstream type is one of BB’s amores.  As part of TWAM, Theater With a Mission, specializing in Spanish Golden Age plays and Palaver Tree Theater specializing in the history of community and opportunities for locals, Babushka thought that was about as diverse as North Florida was gonna get. Tallahassee Hispanic Theater, who’d of thunk it?  Bueno, BB’s amiga Alejandra did, and not only did she think about it, but she did it! Logro the dream of bringing modern plays written by Hispanic playwrights to Florida’s Capital.

A little about Alejandra-
Alejandra Gutiérrez

Alejandra Gutierrez Founder of Tallahassee Hispanic Theater

“Alejandra has a PhD in Spanish. She also studied theater in Venezuela, and while going to graduate school, she was a member of the Spanish Theater Group at the University of Virginia. Since she moved to Tallahassee, she’s being working with Theater with a Mission, and recently with Polyphonic Bonsai. With Tallahassee Hispanic Theater she is turning one of her dreams into reality: creating a Hispanic Theater group in the US.”

Plays performed by Tallahassee Hispanic Theater

And if you think this dream is only for the adult crowds, JU SO FONII!!!  Tallahassee Hispanic Theater has our hijos and futuro cultura very much al tanto.  Of course, to go to the future, one must know their past, so puppet shows of the classic, Don Quixote son perfecto.

THT- Don Quixote puppet show

And speaking of futures, Tallahassee Hispanic Theater just performed the first microtheater in North Florida.  Miami being the only other microtheater in the state, this is cosa grande, and as BB shared, BUENISIMO!!  Looking forward to next years offerings.

Alejandra shared, "We’ve been doing Hispanic plays in translation since 2016. The micro theater Festival idea occurred to me because it is a format very popular and successful in Spain and Latin America. Since it was during the summer we wanted to do something fun and fresh, so we added live music, food and drinks and we were really surprised with the response we got. People really enjoy the whole event and we hope to do it every summer. We will continue doing a play during the fall and spring. On November 9-10, 15-16 we’ll be presenting our next play “Idiots Contemplating the Snow”, by Alejandro Ricaño at the Monticello Opera House.

As you can well imagine, BB is very proud of Alejandra, THT- Tallahassee Hispanic Theater and all the actors and audiences who have become of part of this diversification of Tallahassee voices. Not only is the public being exposed to offerings from varied Hispanic authors, they’re beginning to realize that “Hispanic” encompasses many different types and countries. Ya Buena Hora y Al Fin!!

So you can follow, cheer, and hopefully join us un dia.

BB Blabs 'Bout 'Buela - Show 4 @Carla_Curiel Creator of @MundoLanugo

BB Blabs 'Bout 'Buela Show 4 Carla Curiel Mundo Lanugo_Grandparents_Bilingual_earlyed

HolaHolaHola Beautifuls!!

Show 4 of BB Blabs was a little bit different this time; the guest being interviewed isn't an abuela.
Pero she invented one of the most charming Grandmothers Babushka has ever met- Doña Antigua.

La Doña is grandmother to Gloria, a personal friend of BB's, por largo rato.

Mundo Lanugo Bilingual Biculture Children Spanish Culture Animation Apps

Years of Amor & Amistad.

Babushka had to ask Carla what prompted her to add La Doña to the Mundo Lanugo Lineup; what did she see the role of Grandparents being? Inspired como siempre, she touched on families where grandparents are raising their grandchildren (as is the case con Gloria), the different types of abuelas- the ones who were "AbuelaMoms" and the "AbuelaParty". Y si, BB es de the latter.  Pero in whichever group the grandparent is, they are definitely an important and intricate part of la familia.

To hear the full interview, please click here:

And here, our true guest of honor esta noche-  Doña Antigua.

She has so much in common with Babushka!
El baile, the way she sings. Quee??  JU SO FONII!!
Ok, BB doesn't clean, but besides that the similarities are astounding!

Tambien astounding are the wonderful productos, sites & youtubes of Mundo Lanugo.

So Beautifuls, this BB Blabs y grandma was diferente -
but then again, if you've been following BB,
a different kinda grandma is something you're used to.

The Circle of Life. To Care con Cariño- for Loved Ones & Yourself. #Caregiving #AARP #AARPCUIDAR

HolaHolaHola My Beautifuls!

The Circle of Life, Circulo de La Vida.
Now before y'all start singing the Disney tune, see what tune you sing despues de ver esto.

Bittersweet verdad? Oh, but what a grateful cancion to be able to sing.

Last month BB was invited to an AARP luncheon promoting their #AARPCuidar program.

"This program provides much needed resources and information to Hispanic/Latino Caregivers and their families across the nation. The goal is to let the Latino community know that AARP has a wealth of information to help them care for their loved ones and themselves. The information is in-language and in-culture."

Signs from the luncheon, and My Capitan Maria de los Angeles sharing some caregiving insights

As you may recall My Beautifuls, when in Miami Babushka stays with her 92 year old grandmother, La Tata. Like many elderly, she has her bouts with being mal geniosa and depression as shared before, so the premise of caregiving to an older loved one wasn't new to BB. However, to find out that AARP has dedicated an entire campaign- in English Y en Español was enlightening, and even a relief.

In the Hispanic culture, families take care of their elderly without question.  Before, there was always a family member who stayed home to be the caregiver, nowadays the percentage of those who can actually do so is getting smaller and smaller.  How does one ask for help for something that has always been a given?  AARP has resources for those giving care, and also for those who will receive it. Quee?? Ok Si, JU SO FONII!!! If we're lucky, si tenemos suerte, we'll ALL have to receive it.

So if you're the one now being the caregiver, there are articles to help you care for your loved one, and articles to help  you care for yourself.  It's very easy to forget that last part. Por favor don't. And if you can pass along the info to the ones who'll probably be taking care of you in the future, you'll be doing everyone a big favor.  At the very least, give them the websites so they know there is help, and this is just a part of The Circle of Life.

NOW you can start singing.

; )

*Disclosure- Babushka was compensated for this post, but the sentiments are all BB's.

Imainlove with Amaluna @CirqueduSoleil Miami

 #Autism #ArtforAutism #Grandparents #lifelongmemories #spon #100%BB

HolaHolaHola My Beautifuls!

As you well know, BB is always thankful for her familia and her profession-blogging. The chances Babushka can turn them into a Twofer the blessing is doubled. These double blessings make for lifelong memories, impressions, and lessons. I'm counting on this next adventure to be exactly that for La Princesa, my granddaughter. Because of her autism, she doesn't join us in many shows. We really don't know how she'll react to the loud noises and sudden movements. However, if there's one thing we do know is her love of music and dance. BB also knows that mi querida nieta has the "magic power" of killer memory and answering questions correctly w/the dialogue of a tv program or video she's seen, y that she also understands the essence of people and things. For this reason Babushka will take her to see Amaluna. Gracias to the kind folks of Cirque du Soleil, she will experience the joy of a live performance and hopefully the message of female vitality & empowerment.

Babushka can hear you Beautifuls saying, "Quee? A circus starring women and their powers? #JUSOFONII !!!" Who'd of thunk it right?  Pero si, here's the story behind Amaluna.

Amaluna invites the audience to a mysterious island governed by Goddesses and guided by the cycles of the moon. Their queen, Prospera, directs her daughter's coming-of-age ceremony in a rite that honors femininity, renewal, rebirth and balance which marks the passing of these insights and values from one generation to the next.

In the wake of a storm caused by Prospera, a group of young men washes ashore the island, triggering an epic and emotional story of love between Prospera's daughter and a brave young suitor. But theirs is a love that will be put to the test and the couple must face numerous demanding trials before they can achieve mutual trust, faith and harmony.

Amaluna is a fusion of the words ama, which refers to "mother" in many languages, and luna, which means "moon"; a symbol of femininity that evokes both the mother-daughter relationship and the idea of goddess and protector of the planet. Amaluna is also the name of the mysterious island where this magical story unfolds.

A TRIBUTE TO THE WORK AND VOICE OF WOMEN
For the first time in Cirque du Soleil's history, Amaluna features a cast that comprises 70% women, with a 100% all-female band. "Amaluna is a tribute to the work and voice of women", explains Director of Creation Fernand Rainville. "

Pass up a chance to see this with my nieta?  Now it's BB's turn to say, JU SO FONII!!!

Of course Babushka wants to share this blessing with you My Beautifuls,
so here's a giveaway for 4 tickets to see Amaluna.
Si, Cirque's Sensational aren't they?

For those that don't want to miss it, but don't want to wait either,
for BB's Beautifuls on Cyber Monday:
