March Madness- A La BB!! Continuation...

This post has sponsors & swag, and como siempre, Babushka's personal take on all of it.

HolaHolaHola My Beautifuls!!!

Hoy Babushka continues the Hays of March. That's "hays" in Spanish, as in  hay-hay que hacer, plural. Hay as in has, porque BB has a lot of catching up to do. Y si, a play on the Ides of March too. Life has so many meanings when you live it bilingually! Continuing.

The Original March madness post was a short prelude and got to March 1. The second post for March was on the @PGATourWoman and got us hasta the second of March. A ver how far we can get on this one. Ahora, as you well know Beautifuls, if BB's around there's an aventura, pero there's a lot of dance floor to cover, so put on your Dr. Scholl's y  ♪A BAILAR SE HA DICHO!♪

If you follow @BBabushka on Instagram you may have seen some of these. Hope you enjoy them a second time.   ; )

March 3-

Boca Nail Bar Bloggin' Mamas Grand Opening

Pre-Opening Event w/ Bloggin' Mamas

Now My Beautifuls, BB knows Boca Raton has a rep for being posh, but seriously...
Boca Nail Bar.  Wow and Woah.

March 4, Wednesday.
Babushka spent the day at Tata's staring at her beautifully manicured gel nailpolished nails.

March 5, Thursday.

First, we start the day off with an event that truly should be a national holiday.

305 Cafecito Day Miami JLPR Jenny Lee Molina Ball and Chain Bar
TREMENDA FIESTA!!

Celebrated at Little Havana's fabled Ball & Chain, Jenny Lee Molina, the creator of the 305 fenomeno and owner of the boutique PR company JLPR  was very happy to see BB.  She's such a Bella; notice how she's making 3 0 5 with her hands. Cutisima. Also, mi amiga, the ever going Anneliesse Morales, sharing the giant poster of her gracing a local publication. And porsupuesto, can't have cafecito sin sugar and pastelitos!!  Now you know Babushka would have felizmente stayed there the whole day, pero there were other events waiting to be shared and savored.

winn dixie calle ocho carnaval miami

And when Babushka says savored My Beautifuls, she ain't just whislin' La Guantanamera!
Especially in Miami!! Doubly especially when you're a #CarnavalMiaVIP and you attend the marvelous #WDCalle8 Cooking Contest hosted by the muy querido y comico Chef Pepin.

Chef Pepin WDCalle8 Winn Dixie Cooking Contest
pictured are Chef Pepin, Janie Flores, y My Capitan Maria de los Angeles.

Es mas, Chef Pepin remembered Babushka from long ago when he worked in La Tata's nightclub.
Not only is he a corazon, but he has a memory as good as his attitude!

We tweeted, we toured, we tasted. Si, it was a very nice way to end the day.
Gracias de Nuevo Winn Dixie.

March 6, Friday.

On this day My Beautifuls, the event was so big it was held at the SunLife Stadium.
And needed two collages to do it semi justice.

ford motor company cars ford mustang ecoboost sunlife stadium miami

Ford Ecoboost Challenge Sunlife Stadium Miami Ford Transit

Pictured w/ Heather Lopez and Ford Rep Rachel Young, BB drove a Ford Mustang- oh yes she did!!
Babushka also tried the Focus, the Fiesta, and the Transit.  This is where the idea to take the Grands around in the "unminivan" took place. Pero that story is for another time.  Suffice to say we all left test driven out and impressed by what we saw. Did BB have a favorito? JU SO FONII!!! You know mine is a Familia Pa' Ford, so how could there possibly be only one loved???

And that was the "work" week Monday-Friday, but we all know bloggers don't have the regular hours of others, so of course Saturday had another aventura. But Babushka has a hueco in her insoles and cayos from typing so much, so that historia will also be for another time.

Enjoy your finde My Beautifuls, and until la proxima,

#CarnavalMiami2015 - Charity Cha Cha Cha

#spon

HolaHolaHola My Beautifuls!!!

The craziness of Carnaval has started to pick up steam in Miami. Mira el schedule.

carnaval miami,calle ocho,cooking contest,domino tournament,golf classic,kiwanis,little havana,

Wow and Woah. Quite a list verdad?

That's a lotta action going on, and as BB mentioned in the last post, it's organized by a staff of 4 and countless volunteers of the Little Havana Kiwanis. So there's the charity Cha Cha Cha, a lot of bailando for a cause they believe in. ALL these events are organized by the Little Havana Kiwanis to benefit the underpriviledged of the community.  Si, these are all fun, but they're fundraisers too.

Babushka's very honored and proud to be one of the Carnaval Miami VIP Bloggers.

Si, very honored to help this great organization and their cause and hope you join us in some of the activities.  If you can't come in person, please help us spread the wonderful events they have by tweeting #CarnavalMiami2015 and if you see #CarnavalMiaVIP you know it's one of the bloggers chosen for the varied categories, so a RT would be mucho appreciated. In another post Babushka will detail all the other wonderful reps of Carnaval Miami. For now, know that BB's tema is Cultura/Culture. Quee? JU SO FONII!!! No, they're not saying BB's cultured, just that she knows about the Culture of Calle Ocho, Little Havana.

Por supuesto, a big part of that is food, so you KNOW Babushka's not missing this one!

"Emceed by nationally acclaimed personality Chef Pepin, the cooking contest is judged by catering managers and local television personalities instructed to select the winning recipes based on the originality, presentation and flavor of the dish.

The contest presents cash awards to top three choices within the categories of General Public, High School and Vocational Education students."

Hope to see you at the event or Tweety,
where Babushka will be sharing the delicias the judges are tasting.

March Madness - A La BB!!

HolaHolaHola My Beautifuls!!!

When Babushka told Sweetie the name of this post, he thought I meant the basketball championships. Of course BB said, JU SO FONII!!! Ok si, it's only 2 years of marriage (on March 1), and he IS a guy, pero still...

March is when the traveling starts for Babushka, and even though January was a jumpin' Up North in The South, the vibes in Miami are totally different and pa'lante with the pace!! Arrived Wednesday, and went straight to Bloggin' Mamas headquarters to work on the final details for the #FamilyTravelChat Tweety Fiesta. Hoy,today,Friday, went down to Miami to stay in Little Havana with La Tata. There I found:

BB was sent that from Olay because "We are so glad to see such engaging and fun spirited people such as yourself participating in such a fabulous fiesta"  They were talking about the #MyCloseUp Tweety Fiesta +babushkas bebe and Babushka had attended the week before. Nice verdad??

Tonight is Viernes Culturales, where Calle Ocho closes the street on the last Friday of each month to showcase its shops, galleries, music, art and vendors. One Big Giant Block Party. Remember, the blocks in Little Havana are loooooonnnnggg so it's bigger than you think!

Ok Si, hasta here it's February, but it's an extra day this year, so technically we're in March.

Sunday hopefully La Tata and BB will be taking care of Dr. J
while the rest of his family are enjoying

When BB asked if La Princesa could handle the hockey game, +babushkas bebe said,
"There's only one way to find out."

Gracias to +Ford Motor Company for making this possible.

Ahora, did you notice this Carnaval badge on the blogs sidebar? Guess who's an ambassador for Carnaval Miami?  ESO!!!  Babushka was chosen as "Culture" Ambassador. A more detailed post is soon to come about this great chain of Carnaval Miami events organized by the Little Havana Kiwanis  but suffice to say Sunday is the #CarnavalRun2015

A Dream Realized and Hopefully a Lesson About #Bullying Learned- @LegoLandFlorida & El Dr.

To the good folks of the FTC- Legoland sent 2 park entrances to BB when the story of El Dr's school year was shared.
That was the "monetary" compensation for this post;the actual emotional compensation is priceless.

HolaHolaHola My Beautifuls!!!

Babushka and El Dr. all smiles at LegoLand Florida. A nice picture verdad? Pity the story behind it isn't.

If you read the FTC disclosure, BB hinted about my grandson's school year. My dear, baby loving, self entertained, inquisitive grandson was being mocked for all the things we love about him, and this shook the very core of his being, questioning if perhaps his family had been untruthful to him and that tal vez his new environment was the truth.  As soon as his parents found out, they changed schools and are ever vigilant that it doesn't happen again, but that didn't erase his hurt or his doubts. Was Babushka going to let those bullies win, let them change my querido nieto? JU SO FONII!!! Y'all know BB takes situations and finds/sees the positive in them, and if a Twofer can be made - a definite ESO! Such was the case of this years summer vacation choice with El Dr.; we would combine the dream he had of visiting Legoland and the life lesson of " playing alone,"nerdiness" is really not a bad thing."

And so we went to Legloland Florida- let the learning & fun begin!

Vieron the size of the park?? Where to go, where to start?
Bueno, The Beginning is always a good place...

That was just the entrance! Ahora My Beautifuls, you know BB does not usually travel the typical straight path, but in the name of poetic license, and for the sake of your sanity, let's follow the left side of the map.

Por supuesto and But Of Course, the FIRST thing that caught El Dr.'s eyes??

Unfortunately, fortunately it wasn't open- closed for refurbishment. This brings me to several points. Check the daily printouts for closed rides and daily showtimes, they really do help keep the frustration levels down.  The second point, don't be surprised by the amount of Lego products and shops that carry them. BB let El Dr. look at all of them- Quee?? Soy Abuela, that's one of the perks. Besides, they had AC.  Continuing; he gets to look at all so he can see which one he truly wanted to take home.  Vieron? Grandma gets to look benevolent without having to lug souvenirs all over AND gets to cool off in the shops AC. This takes me to the last point here- TAKE SUNBLOCK, KEEP YOURSELF COOL.  If you need help on that you can watch Babushka's YouTube Video for tips.

FUN TOWN had several neat places, but for BB Fun Town Slushies (see prior sentences for why this is a given) and the Fresh From Florida Greenhouse Exhibit were the favorites. Si yo se, Babushka's such a fan of the state- love learning about it; hope all the grands do the same. A bit of learnin' between the fun.

BB's Hometown Miami Dade County and BB's Home town Wakulla County
Really am an extremist huh?

Got such a kick out of seeing them- but wait, there's another "home" surprise in a bit...

Continuing.

El Dr.'s favorite spots in FUN TOWN were the Grand Carousel and the  Wells Fargo 4D Theater,
which he agreed with Babushka on the 4D movie .  BUENISIMO!!!

He also enjoyed the characters around the park.

What can I say? El Dr. is BB's grandson; he likes bad jokes.

Bigger than Life.  Now let's go the opposite way.

MINILAND USA

Not too mini actually. Bueno, considering the cities they've recreated, they really can't be.

They have 8 major places represented. Naturally they had Florida; BB showed the wildlife- both natural and the ones tanning in Miami Beach. Do you remember when I wrote earlier about another "home" surprise?

OH SI THEY DID!!!

 AHORA SI- BB ♥ LEGOLAND!

And as if it couldn't get any better...

A COOL OFF MACHINE!!!!

And talking about cool...

BB's brush with the Dark Side-  Darth Vader
Y que me dicen, what says you about El Dr. & Arturito??

Yeah, as you can see, his eyes rolled too when I said that.

At this point the post should be titled- Back off Bullies, I'm in the Zone. And he truly was.

First, the WB Zone.

Where he got to play games and got to meet the stars of his latest favorite film.

But most entrancing to him of all-

Are you seeing that face of total contentment?
Just tell me if that isn't the stare of someone "in the zone".

It took a lot of convincing to get him away from there, pero 1.5 hours era suficiente,
there were more things to see and lands to visit.

The one school El Dr. didn't mind going to? Driving School!!
Si, Gracias to Ford, my grandson was going to get his license before the day was through.

Always said it- we're  Una Familia Pa' Ford!

LEGO KINGDOMS

El Dr. had seen the castle from the parking lot and it was one of the "must go to" points of Legoland. When he realized it housed a roller coaster he passed on it, but he loved the food, the joust, and the chance to win prizes.  FYI bring cash, 'cause you're gonna wanna play!!

WORLD OF CHIMA

The LEGO World of Chima, presented by Cartoon Network, features an immersive family experience with an interactive water ride, The Quest for CHI, a super-charged SpeedorzTM Arena, Cragger’s Swamp water play area, a new 4D movie experience and character meet-n-greet sessions.

El Dr. had a great time playing with the water squirters and seeing the characters of a favorite cartoon series; Babushka was thankful for the cool water soaking the days heat away.

By this time we were getting a little tired, but there was one more section Babushka had to visit.

Legoland stock photo

DUPLO VALLEY
When we first entered the park BB had suggested visiting this and he said no, it was for little kids. After a day of being at Legoland he realized it was ok to like what he liked, that he wasn't the only one who could live in this type of world, and that being with those younger than himself was nothing to be ashamed of.  We had come full circle; he wanted to go in.

If the Imagination Zone was his Intellectual side, then Duplo Valley was his emotional side.
Here too he felt at home.

So did Babushka really have to go all the way to Legoland to prove bullies wrong?
A little extreme perhaps, but I'm a Cuban Grandma and that's just our way.
Y despues de ver, after seeing and sharing these moments

It's the only way to be.

BB2U

p.s.  There are 2 other sections BB didn't include here, but the pics will be on Google + and Feibu.

p.p.s.Right now there's a BOGO deal for all Florida Residents that's definitely worth using.

Because Babushka doesn't want any disappointed fans, the VIP Points program is not honored at the park. You truly can get any and all types of Legos here, but the company that makes Legos NO es dueño, is NOT the owner of Legoland, so don't expect to use or get Lego points for any purchases.

What you CAN expect is a wonderful experience that needs at least 2 days for the park, 1 day for the waterpark, and once the hotel opens in 2015 at least 2 days more days there just to recover.

; )

BB's Being a Blockhead- Be Careful What You Wish For.

HolaHolaHola My Beautifuls!!

Babushka's writing this at 11:23 PM while waiting for my clothes to wash. Before I forget the events of the dia, before I fall asleep while trying to type this.  Oh si, I know y'all have had this type of a day.

BB's still mentally and physically trying to "go back to normal" from my 12 hour bus ride, sleeping on recliners, taking care of grandmothers y grandbabies and La Potencia that is Hispanicize.  Don't think I'll be able to totally clear the effects of this trip 'till I'm back Up North in The South- for awhile.  Queee??  You think I'm just being Cubana and exagerating??  Unfortunately My Beautifuls, it's gone beyond just "Pulling a BB" (although I did do a couple of those too). Sit back, sientensen, get comfy y comodas y hopefully we'll both crack a smile while BB shares her Being a Blockhead Blues.

Blockhead. It's that feeling when you're not really thinking, just reacting.  The times when nothing new could possibly enter your brain; it's become a block.  Kinda like having a headcold, but without the fofos...

Babushka was up at 7:30 am. Ahuh- right there you know things aren't normal. I had gone to bed knowing La Tata had run out of her medicinal supplies and needed me to get them in the morning. Running on autopilot I took the bus to La Tata's Clinica to pick them up- didn't even drink cafe. Zombie autopilot- no bueno. Wanting to take advantage of my allday bus pass- quee? BB was Blockhead not braindead, hay que aprovechar those deals! Continuing. Wanting to take advantge of the pass, BB was going to do some grocery shopping. Just a few items, so I took my wheeled carryon luggage. Bueno, the medicinal supplies turned out to be 5 packages of incontinence pads- the BIG packages; they didnt all fit in the carryon.  Luckily there was a foldup wheeled carryon in the outside pocket that could be used! Unluckily it broke when I was running towards the bus.

And the "few things" I was going to buy at the supermarket turned out to be 2 gallons of milk, a 10 lb bag of chicken, salad fixins, 2 lbs linguine, 2 pkgs Cafe Cubano, Green plantains, coldcuts, cereal, butter, candy, Cuban Crackers, mini croissants, plantain chips and cheese.  Si, this is why Sweetie raises his eyebrows when I go out for "just a few things" and why my credit card companies love Babushka so much.  Naturally all this didn't fit in the carryon so I was also lugging 4 extra bags into the bus. Everyone was glad I just had to go 4 blocks. Y yes, I took the bus because they are 4 looooonnnnggg blocks. Matter of fact, BB's one of those that won't take the shopping cart out of the parking lot if my life depended on it, but I'm glad for the person on 8th St. and 15 Ave who doesn't follow that same outlook, porque Babushka used the cart they had taken- because my life DID depend on it! Again, in Little Havana, those are loooooonnnnngggg blocks.

Arriving at La Tata's redfaced, sweating, and almost passed out, it was now 10 am.  To BB it seemed like I had lived a week in those 2.5 hours. My only thought before taking an early Siesta- How does one go about canonizing the inventor of ice cubes and air conditioning??

Five hours later - quee? I had to agregar, add on the sleep hours missed from my early rise, no?? Cinco horas despues I was making La Tata's afternoon cafe con leche when a torrential rain storm hit Little Havana. How refreshing it made the evening air, so much so I decided to go do some shopping after dinner for La Tata, another "few things" that were needed.  Ok si, they didn't all fit.  But that wasn't the peor.  During self checkout I forgot to add the coupons, again proof of Blockheaditis, so the manager had to cancel out the transaction. We moved to another register where he rang the items up again, and then he used the wrong reward card (BB carries 2- one is La Tata's) and had to start all over again. FINALLY the 4 liters of soda were in the carryon and 2 extra bags in hand.  Now, I don't know if it was the weight, the overuse, the abuse, but the handle of the carryon refused to fully slide upwards.  Babushka was doing a Quasimodo impression down SW Eighth street, dragging the carryon, holding the bags, and trying not to fall over because BB's body was hunched more than half. In a burst of "COME ON NOW!" the carryon was flung/flicked by the handle and went to its correct position. After all that, the 5 looooonnnnggg blocks back to La Tata's didn't seem that bad.

Now, here's the part where Babushka says to "Be careful What You Wish For".  Once BB was walking upright, the evening breeze was cool; it was pleasurable and somewhat mind clearing. The affects of exercize aren't too well practised or known to Babushka, so I said to myself, "I wish I could do more of this to clear the blockhead." Bueno My Beautifuls- PorQue??!!!  I arrived at La Tata's and realized I had left the credit card at the store.  Oh si, yes BB did.

The store was called; they had the card. Babushka took the bus this time.  Not only did BB take the bus, but the evening air was so enticing, a trip to Downtown was taken- spur of the moment.  Why not? BB had the all day bus pass and needed to recharge it for another day, so to the Brickell metrostation I went.

The pass autoload option wasn't functioning correctly so BB bought a new card,
also had 40 mins until the next guagua so I went across the street to buy "a few things".

40 minutes later, on the way back to Little Havana, Babushka asked the driver if 12th & 7th was the closest to La Tata's.  He said yes, and in the next stop- which was 8th & 7th BB got off.  Zombie autopilot struck again.  An extra 4 loooonnnggg blocks were added to the camina to casa.

 ::Sigh:: y Self :: BOPASO::

On the corner of La Tata's the rain decided to dance again.

Now I will ask you a seemingly random question My Beautifuls, but you'll understand in a moment why la pregunta.  Do you remember your potty training? Unfortunately BB can't ask her madre for verification, but it seems everytime Babushka gets near home, "dancing at the door" happens. She must have said "you can hold it 'till we get to casa." and it's ingrained in the subconscious. Bueno, La Tata's front lock took this moment to stick; should have held on to one of her medicinal supplies. Thankfully I was already wet by the lluvia.

My Bella Amiga Jewel Figueras said she doesn't follow reality shows, but one about Babushka's Life in Little Havana she'd watch...

So, has the Blockhead gone?

JU SO FONII!!!

Pero I did use up my all day bus pass.

#SMCSFBlog Challenge- And I'm doing this because???

HolaHolaHola My Beautifuls!!!

I know Babushka hinted at this before, but the JU SO FONII is on the border of becoming JU SO CRAZII!!!

BB's half way through the #SMCSFBlog Challenge and needs to be reminded why I ever said si.

Vamos a ver, let's see.

1. The Social Media Club of South Florida is a nice group of people. They truly believe in the power of              social media and are generous with their knowledge. Besides, they're a bunch of locos who are fun and          welcomed esta vieja with open arms.

2.  Babushka likes challenges.  Remember, Sweetie is hubby#3.

3.  There are so many adventures and events that BB hasn't written about yet.  Como:

and of course time in Little Havana

and time w/my boys.

and that was just Septiembre!!!

Hmmm...
maybe 30 days of straight blogging won't be enough!

My Name is Cool by Antonio Sacre- A Review by BB

HolaHolaHola My Beautifuls!!

Today I want to introduce, share, laugh with you about Antonio Sacre.  Sr. Sacre aka Señor Antonio Bernardo Magoo Sacre, Papito Futinguito Coquito, El Goo.  Queeee??? Ju So Fonii !!! Por supuesto que no, of course his name isn't that- it's even longer. But you can always shorten it to:

Thanks to a HispanicizeWire Press Release about the book, Babushka had to read it.  Vamanos people, with the title ‘My Name is Cool: Stories From a Cuban-Irish-American Storyteller’ era un given. Not only had I found a kindred spirit, his abuela lived in Little Havana near La Tata! So besides the multicultural, 1st generation, not speaking Spanish 'till highschool, baby boomer laso, our grandmas came from the same place- twice! Small mundo right? Bueno, it's a small book too- but full of big laughs, and great memories.

But not only is Antonio a writer, he's a performer, and a believer in bilingualism and the power it can bring to our children.  In his performances he combines his talents as he delights and enlightens his audiences.

Babushka hopes to meet Cool one day (his real full name is in chapter 5), but for now reading his tales will make me laugh and be even prouder of my mescla.  As BB stated before, it's a little book with great stories and memories.  Ok si, maybe a bit exaggerated, but he is a storyteller, y besides- he can't help it, he's Cubano.

; )

Babushka Besos a todos.  Cuidensen.

P.S.  BB emailed the publishers the very same day of the press release and was fortunate to have a PDF sent to me.
This is Babushka's opinion on the book and it's author-who by the way, lives up to his name.

P.P.S.

Mixed on McDonald's- La Gallina Vieja's 1st Guest Post

Hola Hola Hola My Beautifuls!  Today Babushka is letting La Gallina Vieja write her first post- y por supuesto, it's a bit confrontational.I've known her my whole life so BB assures you her heart is in the right place, she's just more opinionated than Babushka.  Queee??  JU SO FONII!!!  Ok si, BB definitely has opinions, but LGV is more vocal about them.  Continuing.

MIXED ON MCDONALD'S  by La Gallina Vieja

While in Miami, I usually stay with my grandmother, La Tata in Little Havana.  Along with many other things, Little Havana had a neighborhood McDonald's that really was a neighborhood McDonald's.  The architecture was Spanish style shingles, they served Cuban style coffee, the menu was bilingual and the playground a nice diversion for children with no nearby park. FUERA! GONE! Totally demolished and rebuilt to match everyother cookie cutter McDonald's they're making across the nation.  Well, before I continue w/the tirade let me share the good times-because we all know there's good/bad in everything.

Grandsons w/their best "Ok Grandma,
we're smiling for this picture- now can we go play?"

Funslide, Face Painting and Frisbees

not to mention a Funky Ronald-

Fun times yes, but fleeting and fragile.  In a community proud of its' Hispanic roots they've totally removed everything Spanish- except for the employees and the cafe con leche which is the only Spanish item left in this McDonald's.  The language isn't the only thing missing from our culture.  Latins have a very strong sense of community and that includes knowing what everyone else is doing- they've taken the prior configuration where you could see everyone and compartmentalized the place. Ciao Chismeria and socializing.  Another very essential part of our upbringing is being good hosts and sharing whatever we may have.  Anyone who's ever been to a Cuban's home knows the first thing asked is "Would you like anything to drink?"

So you KNOW this is so WRONG.

Also wrong- how can you put calorie count on the now all English menu, especially stressing how health and weight concious your brand is and then turn around and take away the playground?  And adding insult to injury you've now added a video game section, further immobilizing our youth and curtailing their physical and social skills.  Que? Our children don't get enough of that?  Is that what your ultimate goal is?  To have a world that looks all the same with drones who follow blandness because individuality is not welcomed? Easier to control huh?  Bueno, so sorry con escumi but not here.  We've already lost our individuality somewhere else,  and I for one don't take this lightly.

White bread is fine for others, but in this neighborhood bring me my pan Cubano.

Obviously it's all about the buck for you Mickey D,
therefore I'll be going to a place where my culture is King.

Hasta la proxima- LGV
